Default O2 problem, CEL light is on

***UPDATES***
ok, I rewired the wires so it would be shorter. After that, I reset my ECU, so far 26 miles and driving and no CEL light. I'll keep an update.

hey, I pulled out my primary o2 sensor and I notice that there was like a white resadue on it? does that mean that my engine is running lean?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, here is the scoop. My CEL light is on, I had it checked at autozone and they said that the cat. is not working well. I have a 1996 f22a1 with Megan header, Megan test pipe and full Megan Cat-back. Is it because of the Megan test pipe that I am having the code?

I have done some research and I think all I have to do is to make o2 sensor on the cat. further away from the flow. Making it by 2 non-foulers and drill one of them out so the sensor can go though it. will this solve it?

Sorry I dont know what code it is, all I know is that the cat. is not storing oxegen, and the first sensor is not reciveing any oxegen and the engine is basically coking.

And I know that since I have a test pipe the sensor is probly not reading right. The the guy said the code that was throwen was because of the first (the o2 sensor closes to the engine) was not reciveing oxegen.

But if I make the 2 non-fouler thing will this help my car running better?

Let's never assume again then.

and to the OP, I don't know if I would even take into account what autozone says. I read a few times that some people who work there don't even really know what they are talking about.

well he showed me what he got for a reading with the tester, on the computer. It said bank 1. So I was ASSUMING that it reffered to the first o2 sensor?

when you got the CEL/MIL checked out, did you tell you the actual code that was coming up?

If the code is for your first o2 sensor then you probably need a new one. If you are getting a code because of the second o2 sensor then you can do the non-fouler trick.

So find out which o2 sensor is throwing the code.

ok, the autozone guy said that it was throwing the code because of the catlyst coverter is not storing oxegen (but I have a test pipe). I just finshed the fouler trick today. I will see if the CEL light goes on again, if it does then I guess I will just get a new 02 sensor.

any other sugestions?

Take the O2 sensor out of the test pipe and plug up the bung. Then stash it somewhere on like a heatshield. I had a CEL when i unplugged my secondary O2 sensor but then i put it back in, the CEL was gone. BTW im running no cat because my Megan header was too long and had to ditch the cat. And we made a custom fab O2 bung, but the bung faces the road and it would get knocked off because I am to low.

I think that i just might need a new sensor, not the secondary sensor but the first one. So far 30 miles and no CEL yet! I won't get it until like 40-50 miles... well see. thanks for the help!

yeah but the problem is that on dumb S models, the primary sensor is up higher on the car. Its in the in the engine bay by the header. When I got the megan header, it was the h23 one. So I had to cut and make it longer to fit it where the o2 hole is on the down pipe. maybe I have to fix the wires?

Ok, well its been almost 120 miles and no CEL. So far so good. No I didn't sauder it. You think that I should?

NO, do not sauder the wires, because it adds resistance, and that is how O2 sensors work by resistance.

ok, Well I think that I will try to make the wires shorter. I have the code again. I did some research and found out that maybe if the wires are to long that it can still throw the code. Does anyone know what gauge wires to use? I forgot what kind of wire to use and I just want to make sure I have the correct wire size. Ok thanks.

no, not at all, cause I did it one by one. And plus I didn't get the code until a few months ago. I extented the wires around Feb of this year.
