you should have two o2 sensors on an obd2 (97-up)
one on the down pipe, the other after the Cat.
go buy a book for your car.

First off, oxygen = O2. Anyway, you have one just before your cat and one after (96+ models). If your car runs differently after your check engine light came on, it's the one before the car. If it runs the same but the light is just on, it's the second (or perhaps a bad cat)
