I've looked for this information everywhere...can anyone give me a definitive answer on whether or not my JDM H23A is an open or closed deck. All I can find are "guesses".
Nowhere to be found.....accept in the H series cataloge in the FAQ. I've also posted a picture with the head off in the H23 VTEC thread. Search it and see for yourself.

The H* catalog says "open deck likely", and the image of the block in the H23VTEC thread is of an H22A4(you can see the casting) and an H23A1...maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Could I get a link?

I must admit the threads on H23A or H23 VTEC have gotten out of hand, and the "likely open deck" in the FAQ needs to change as well. I'll just tell you. It is open deck. It's the same design as all other '98+ blocks, aside from the 95 mm crank.
Oh yeah, and no oil squirters, despite being a VTEC.
Edit: I found it on page 19. I linked a pic. https://honda-tech.com/zero...ge=19

This is a pretty general(and wrong) statement...do you mean they're all FRM sleeved?

All H-series are FRM sleeved and to answer your question about the h23 being closed-deck or opened.. 97+ H blocks are open decked and 92-96 are closed.. but this can vary. So I can't give you a definitive answer.

^^edit: Nice save there. Just before I hit the quote button.
The H23A is based on the same block as all 98+ H22's. It's OPEN DECK just like them too. FRM sleeved and also has the benefit of 55mm mains and thicker counterweights. (Completely unlike the H23A1)
Here's the pic again.

Sigh. I didn't want to reply again, but I have to stop the confusion now. Imagine a base H22A4 with a bigger rotating assembly, no oil squirters, and viola...JDM H23A.
It wouldn't make sense for Honda to build a car model that didn't show up until at least the late 90's and build the motor from discontinued designs at the time.

Yes, I still have it. It's a project that's going to have to wait in line for now though. I have to get my car in operational order first. I really don't know how many were made though. For a "rare"motor they aren't too hard to find though.
