Default Is this normal???

Ok, my h22a,from a deadstop,if i gradually give it gas and take it thru the revs,i hear no distinct vtec noise, now if i smash on the gas,i hear the vtec pop,it seems like it loose a lil power than pick back up...now is that normal for vtec not to open if u just give it gas slowly???

VTEC engagement isn't solely based on RPMs. But I have to ask, why the hell are you SLOWLY revving over 5k? If you aren't going to stomp on it, you should be shifting sooner, like 3.5k.

if you have a stock ECU...u won't hear VTEC

you're supposed to be about like 75% throttle, with high enough ECT and at least 20mph to hit vtec. Its to keep people like yourself from wasting gas at 6k rpm cruising.

Yes its completely normal.

i agree with Kronn...if your not wide open throttle shift sooner..... or put the skinny pedal down farther if u want to be in VTEC

Thats what i wanna know, cus even if your just gradually increasing speed and not Full Throttle, vtec should Pop either way.but i was asking cus i only pop vtec if im in full throttle, and i been just having problems ever since my timing belt skipped a tooth(cus of broken dizzy) n i kept on re-timing the car,but never ran the same way than wen i first got the swap..

You're not listening. NO, VTEC should NOT engage with a gradual increase in RPMs. The amount of throttle plays a role. Oil pressure also plays a role, IIRC. And NO, you shouldn't cruise up to or around 6000 RPMs either. Stop abusing your car and expecting it to do something it wasn't designed to do.

And for the other guys, 5250 RPMs (appx VTEC engagement point) is around 25mph in first gear. This is based on a USDM 5th gen MT.
