Default need help on rod selection..

im getting some low compression pistons, b/c i am going turbo in a few months.. im just lookiing for some durable rods, that arent terribly expensive, that will hold up to the stress of turbo.. crower? or eagle? or any others idk about, let me know. all help is appreciated.. thanks they are stock diameter pistons, forged, 9.5:1 compression.. in a 01 H22a4

I say go with Eagle rods. H beams.

I have some for sale if you want 'em. Great conditino - emmaculate condition - they have the arp 2000 rod bolts. Let me know.

crower and eagle are both good. one isn't really any better than the other

yea, those were my two main choices... but im running into a problem, the pistons im getting are JE forged pistons, and the part number is 165051. i went and checked, and apparently they are 9.0:1 compression, but they are for the H23...they are still interchangeable, correct?

and how much you want for the rods?

i had some eagle rods, i think they are pretty good........i tore up my engine, and i think its because the rods got too hot and one of the bolts broke.......here is a pic.

I think the rod held up pretty good considering it punched through the side of my block. it twisted a little and the rod cap was squozen.

I'm going with Manley for my new rods.....I've heard you don't want Eagles if you ever plan to have over 600whp, and that's what i'm shooting for next summer. The Manleys are very impressive when compared to the Eagles, but they are also somewhat expensive.

Here are some comparison pics of the old Eagle rods and the new Manley rods. You can also see the damage to the old 89mm CP pistons and the new 87mm Endyn Rollerwaves.

damn, those manly rods are just that... manly. they dwarf the eagles... but im aiming for about 400 hp, not 600, so i think ill be fine with eagles... good luck on the 600 hp thing in the summertime

im worried about the pistons, b/c i guess they are H23 pistons and are 9.0:1, so my compression will be lower than that. as long as the ringlands arent weak, like the stock h22 rings, itll do just fine..

for the extra couple hundred dollars i'd get the best. then when you realize that 400whp wasn't enough and you decide to turn it up, you won't have to go digging back into the motor to fish out those eagle rods and replace them with some more "manley" rods. you will need more power once you feel it. if you can't afford it i completely understand though. but if you can, there is no reason not to get some more beefy rods.

what kind of pistons, sleeves, turbo, and ems are you using?

heres a shot of the manley/rollerwave combo.

this is exactly how I felt
Iwent with Pauter rods, they are pretty beefy. Here they are next to stockers.

Awesome quality

well, im in the process of piecing it all together.. i was thinking of going with a turbonetics T3/T4 hybrid and some JE 9.0:1 pistons.. i was going to put the turbo kit on my car and run about 7 psi, as i was building my spare block up, and then, when i am finished, just swap blocks.. as far as sleeves, i was looking at darton, or anyone else who will do it for a reasonable price...

i went with the crower bullit rods and i blew my motor and the rods did'nt even feel it. they cost a bit more than eagles but if you like your car put good parts in it.
i would'nt be too happy if i spent all this money and had an eagle brake and tear the inside of your block up. just my opinion.

yea, those are the same pistons im picking up,, but they are going into the H22, so my compression will be down to about 8.5:1...how much did you get your darton sleeved block for??

We have ran the same eagle rods for 3 years. We could just sell you our engine if your interested w/ T4OE / sleeved Arias pistons etc - we are doing a completely different setup for next year.
