need help on power steering problem
hi i drive a 92 prelude s w/ a swapped h22a4. after the swap, there had been no power steering due to missing parts, but recently i have replaced the power steering mount. the problem is that, whenever the engine is cold, like when i first drive it the entire day, there is a very loud screeching noise whenever i turn the steering wheel. the noise stops after i drive for a short distance. this has only happened every since i put in the power steering mount. can anybody tell me whats wrong with it? my friend says it has to be with the power steering belt. any help would be appreciated. thanks
your friend is right. That sound is the belt slipping on the PS pump. Now you have to find the cause of this.
If your fluid is old sometimes it will be much thicker when cold causing the pump to have to work very hard to move the fluid. To solve that problem simply change out the PS fluid.
Another more simple problem could be that your belt is too loose. Check to make sure that it is on there good and tight.
Or you could have a worn belt, or something got on the belt like oil. So as your friend said check the belt out first then if that doesn't work change out your fluid.
