Welcome to the wonderful world of 'ludes, Honda's "big block" bad boy
... there will be lots of haters cause it ain't a civic ... but haters will hate ...
Maintenance - timing belt, oil change, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ect ...
- If you're so inclined, you can leave the balance shaft belt off when you do the timing belt, the car will vibrate a bit more, but that's the trade off for a little acceleration
I/H/E - Intake/Header/Exhaust
- Any short ram or cold air intake will give you more air flow
- Any decent knock off header will give you a little more flow, look for the budget header shoot out threads for dyno comparisons
- Sounds like you already have a decent exhaust
Intake manifold (recommended but optional)
- Blox, OBX, Skunk2 or gut the butterflies out of the stock mani, any decent mani will make some extra power on a stock engine and simplify your setup
- The VTEC system in the H22 uses a dual plane intake manifold, at low rpms it acts as a long runner mani which helps with low end torque, at high rpms it opens a set of butterfly valves that makes it behave like a short runner mani for high rpm horsepower. The problem with this is you need a specific ECU to tune them, without them you can use just about any chipped OBD1 Honda ECU to tune. Also, getting rid of the stock intake mani allows you to remove some stuff like vacuum lines and simplify your engine setup a little.
Tune- Buy an engine management system and go get dyno tuned
- For you this should be a chipped OBD1 Honda ECU and an OBD2->OBD1 ECU harness adapter
If you don't want to swap the stock intake manifold for aftermarket, open up the upper plenum and remove the IAB butterflies, its a very simple mod, just don't drop the screws.
If you leave the IAB butterflies in you will need a chipped P72 to tune on. If you replace the intake manifold with an aftermarket, you can use any chipped VTEC ECU for tuning.
If this isn't enough when you're done, look into aftermarket cams and cam gears.
