MSD install question
I have a JDM H22 motor in my 92 hatchback, and I was given an MSD 6AL Box. I also was given the Blaster 2 Coil. I just want to hook up the box into my internal coil for now. how would I go about installing it?...I already searched and didint come up with anything, so i wanted to ask you prelude guys first....help a brother out..
Its not real descriptive on where the wires go though, and its not car specific either. anyone else have any ideas. it shows where two wires go, just not the other 2?...
Unless you are pushing big hp, I would stay with stock. Too many people have problems with the MSD gear these days. You didnt list your mods so I dont want to say for sure dont use it but you might want to research the problems associated with the MSD ignition and out H22 motor. Yes it is free you said, but if it causes more problems down the line I would turn around and sell it to buy a mod that would help more. my2c

Use the instructions for the SCI ignition rather than the 6al (its the same internally), they have an internal coiled Honda as one example I believe.
i just wired up the box to the internal coil and now it seems like it is misfiring, like when i start moving, then punch it it hesitates..so we cahnged the spark plugs and gapped them to .050, put them in and it did it still???...i took off the dist. cap and i think it burnt up the carbon brush...should i just put the external cap on and get the new MSD cap and rotor for it...so i can avoid all the wiring inside...
Well, now you have started to enjoy the problems that come with MSD on a Honda. Listen to what people have said and take it off for good.
You may get the car running fine, but as soon as you drive in the rain and your car dies, or on the day the MSD box decides it wants to die and you're left stranded in an intersection you'll wish you hadn't ever messed with it.

well ive already read that it is because you have to drill a hole for the wire( i filed it) and the wires can jump and cause a miss...if i run the external part the wires wont be exposed inside and it will be better im guessing....i dont know why you are so against MSD...i know a lot of people with them and never have any problems even on hondas...any other input would be appreciated

Because those things I mentioned both happened to me in the short time I had my MSD, and I haven't seen any 'fast' Honda's that run an MSD. Plus all the really good, well known tuners agree that MSD is crap on Hondas.
I'm sure you're going to do it anyway, but that's my input if it matters...

i respect your input...but for the short while you had it on, did you notice anything from it. be honest...cause if it really doesnt help at all i will say expletive it for good

All I noticed was 4 sparks instead of 1 under my clear distributor cap, haha.
And maybe a little smoother idle, but nothing significant really...stock ignition has been proven up to 300-350 whp.
My car also had a Jacobs Electronics ignition installed when I bought it and that things crapped out randomly also...

Honestly you're not gonna see any power from it. if you're running extremely high compression or some ridiculous fuel or making 3-400 hp plus then thats when its going to be beneficial.
I've always ran MSD (though I don't need it) and evidently one of the few who hasn't had any probs. The SCI I bought 5 years ago went three years on my car a year on my friends and now its running on someone elses. I've always used msd coils and the box has always been mounted inside the car, which I personally think has a lot to do with it. Putting a box in the engine bay where its constanly being heated up and cooled down (daily driving) is killer on anything electronic.
I'm currently running another msd box (dis-4) with no problems from it either. That particular box is neccesary for the setup I'm running (distributorless)
If I was you I'd just sell it and buy a taco.

Very true, mine was in the engine bay, but shielded behind the battery...so who knows.

i thought it was bad to put the box inside the cab because of the extreme temps it reaches internally anyway....say in a glovebox it would get hotter because it wouldnt be able to "breath"
