why do you need an msd coil? I read that its not good for the stock ignitor to run an aftermarket coil without the ignition box installed too.

Depends on which coil.

The only rewiring is to take the two positive lines (yellow & yellow/black iirc) to the positive side and the negative to the negative side.

I have the MSD Blaster 2 Coil Pack on a stock Cap and everything else stock, runs just fine. Well, I also have the bigger MSD PLug Wires too. On the stock external coil like gst said there are 4 wires running to the coil. On mine, we just connected the 2 positive and 2 negative and ran a single wire out to the +/- on the Coil. But running them like GST said works just the same. Just less wires if you connect them and run just 2 (+ n -) instead of running 4 wires across to wherever you mount the Coil.

hmm i think i might do this so literally all u do is take negative and positive out of the plug for the existing external coil and plug it into the new one

My Blaster 2 Coil has never given me a problem either. Make sure you're setting the wires right. And dnt use the positive on the Coil pack to hook ANYTHING else up. Fog lights, Underglow, LEDs, etc. It WILL drain your battery til it's dead. Made that mistake with my fog lights and killed my battery a few times b4 I realized. OH. DUH. lol. Cuz as long as the Coil Pack is grounded it will drain power from whatever is touching it, and in turn, drain your battery power.

Here's a picture of my MSD Coil Pack.
Where my finger is is the 2 wires coming off the wiring harness from the motor to the +/- on the Coil.
I took another picture, but my phone cant send it cuz the picture is big.
The 4 wires come off of the same Harness that go to your Distributor.
There's 4 wires coming off of the harness in the plastic wrap or electrical tape most likely.

Ok. Edit. On MY car there are only 3 wires. A black wire with a yellow stripe. A Yellow Wire, and a Blue wire. The blue wire is much skinnier than the other 2. The other two are the same size. The Black and yellow wire, and the yellow wire are spliced together. I'm guessing they are the ground but I am not completely sure. I'm gonna look at my wiring diagrams and see if I can find it.

DO NOT DO THIS. YOU WILL EVENTUALLY BURN OUT YOUR IGNITOR IN DISTRIBUTOR.

Bet me, Paypal.

Yellow and Blk/Ylw are positive, blue is the negative. I have been running my MSD HVC coil like this for several years now without any problems (yes, I know, this is the wrong coil to use stock, I had a Digi6 that I was using with it that died).
