MSD Boost Timing Problems
Hi there everyone.
Being a bit cheeky here I know, with my first post being a question, but I need to draw on your experience. Hope you don't mind
I have done a search to make sure I'm not wasting your time, but had no luck.
I've just fitted a new F-MAX Turbo kit to my prelude 2.2 VTEC. You probably know that the kit came with an MSD Boost Timing Retard unit.
I tried running the car for the first time, and took it up to around 3000rpm, and there the car started misfiring like mad, so bad that it would hardly rev any higher in fact. Anyway, after trying several things, I finaly decided to by-pass the MSD unit, and see if I could at least get any higher than 3000rpm.
It reved without a hiccup up to 5000rpm, at which point I let off to avoid any engine damage.
I can only think of a few possible causes:-
1) I live in the UK, and therefore my coil is inside my distributor (As on a JDM Vehicle). Is this setup ok with an MSD?
2) I have intercepted the short wire between the Coil negative, and the ignitor, and routed 2 cables through my distributor cap for the MSD to connect to. Is this correct?
3) I have extended the supplied wiring so that I can put the unit closer to my driving position. Would this cause any problems?
If there's anything I've missed, or you'd like any pictures to help just let me know
