Default misshift

I couldn't be more mad at miself.Driving stick since 1990 and I did it.I was racing a 200SX and everithing went wrong.I kept bumping the limiter.Never in my life I drove so bad.And then I vent from 3 to 2.
I was redlining the third, don't know how high,i'd say around 8K.When I put it in second, the tires squeeled like hell, the revs went beserk twice I think. Then quickly I got it in fourth. So it didn't blew.
The guy I was racing said that it loocked/sounded scarry.
The car seems perfectly normal but I am very worried that there may be some damage or wear that doesn't show yet.
Can any one explain what is more prone to break/damage in a situation like this?
I would hate to do more damage by driving it before getting it checked.I was stupid enough to misshift.
The car still has warranty,so I can't just take it in and tell them what I did.
What parts of the engine are likely to suffer more? Any chance to have damaged the tranny?
I wish I had more in depth knowledge abouth engines.
It happen in the f#%$^n 13th.Twice I tried to post about it and quit, makes me feel so bad.I feel like I'm in the same league with the guy that hit the wall on that straight road.

WOW that sucks I my told me that he once sold a porsche to a find and he miss shift and it blew his engine. That was a porsche, we have preludes. I guessing you have a 5th gen. One time I was doing a 0-60 I was slowing down, and I must have thrown it into 1st gears after I was done with my run. Anyways, I was going about 30 mph with the clutch in and in 1st gear, I don't know why but I left off the clutch going 30 mph with no revs matched. It wasn't pretty. Car was find though.
As for your situation, my guess is that your cams tried to speed up to match whatever speed you were going in. Example: you said you were in 3rd and wanted to go to fourth well that's about 80 or 90 mph at 6800-7400 RPMs(if your redline racing). If you went to 2nd your rpms probably wanted to be around 10,000 or so, Preludes can't handle that. That is turn would make your valves open a close at a ridiculous rate that the prelude can't handle. I'd say the prelude has some high tech mechanism that saved your engine, However my second guess would be cam shaft, Valve, and Transmission damage.
I'd go to an expert mechanic that knows hondas and have them check it out. Last resort would be to go to dealership cus they might be dicks about it and say the warrenty doesn't cover user abuse. If you take it to a independant honda mechanic and you do have damage you can make up some bull **** story when you got to the dealership.
Hope this helps, and happy shifting

ryvtec,I'm afraid the revs vere higher than 7400,more like 8000.Don't even want to do the math to see what that means when going from third to second!!Unfortunately I live in a small town where the only good Honda mechanic is the one at the dealership.
wOOt,nope, the car sounds exactly like before.I even tried a couple of launches and it feels normal.
It just bother me cuz I know I did something that usually means big trouble.Kind of you don't trust your car anymore.
When an engine blows it happen in the second the clutch engages or it takes a few seconds?

If you don't hear anything you should be fine. If you had actually bent valves you would have a rough idle and low end response cause the air flow would be out of whack with the valves not completely closing

I have no clue. But my only experience was, when I was first learn the stick I was accelerating pretty hard and now that I think of it I did exactly what you did. I missed fourth and went to second. But like I said I wasn't accelerating hard, and I was below 60 mph (the max speed for 2nd). So I let off the clutch and the engine instanly jump to the high RPMs. As I remember as soon as I let off the clutch the engine instantly engaged. My guess would be that the clutch engagement is very sensitive to engine behavor. Ex. at dead stop in 1st gear and let of the clutch really was car jumps horibly however let off the clutch a bit smoother and its not as jumpy.
That's about all the 2 cents I have.

If nothing has changed, and you dont hear anything coming from the engine you should be alright. I am sure Todd will say the same thing, since he knows what happens when you mess your engine up from high revs gone bad. I did the same thing when I was racing my integra. Top of third, tried to throw it in 4th and it went to 2nd. Freaked out, but it ran fine for 10k more miles till i got rid of it and got the lude.

dont worry... just go change the oil and everything, it will make you feel better when you get it back and no one says anything.

Thanks for your replies.
I kind of panicked cause I tought if you misshift that high in the rpms. your engine is gone.Didn't know an engine can survive that.
Now i dare to hope everything is OK.

well i kinda did the same thing, its sounds like we have the same problem. For awhile if i was at a stop sign waiting it would idle so low that it would trun off. So we screwed with **** and then we got it to run. But then it would jump aroung alot wouldn't keep a constant speed, lost alot of power. I took it to my friend who works at a dealership we hooked it up to the computer and it showed us nothing. We put new stock plugs in and it helped alittle. Then it started to not kick in the vtec in first gear. Somtimes when i take off in 1st the vtec will make noise but not kick hard enough and will redline at 6500 instead of 7500. I have no i idea what to do? Any idea's????

I did this same thing last week at the track. Then on my next run my car started making noises during my burnout. It turns out I messes up a cam and all my belts/pulleys have to be replaced and my tensioner(sp). Sucks huh? It's all covered under warrenty though.

heh.. before I got my H22 I backshifted my F22 on the highway from 5th to 2nd!!... not nice but it had no real effect on anything, it was still running strong when I took it out three months after. Luckily I realized what I did and stomped the clutch, but it buried the tach for a split second.
