Mis-Fire Problems, help!?
I have and H22a in my 92 civic si which i think is compatable with a 95 2.2 VTEC Prelude. I just recently moved to Chicago from Kansas City and on the way up here I noticed some misfire and hesitation. I made it here and got to looking at the car and the distrubutor was squelling pretty loud. I went to the salvage yard and got a new shaft and replaced it. I got the distributor back on the car and did not have a timing lights so i snugged it down where the other came off. The car ran OK but now when I hit VTEC it misfires like crazy and then the tach goes up to red line and the car dies. Now the car will not stay running or idle very well. Has anyone had similar problems? I've had the motor in my car sice march with no problems to speak of. When I got to checking, my dist has an internal coil. I checked the part number with Honda and I am still using the stock D16Z6 dist with int coil. The thing is, when I replaced the coil in ran fine for a while even in Vtec. I unplugged the ECU(which is for a prelude) tonight in hopes to reset it. What else is there that i should be considering? Any help is muchly appreciated.

since you are running your stock coil, it could be that. h22's have external coils. did you check your spark plugs to see what condition they're in and make sure they are torqued down to the right lbs. and also make sure your firing pattern is correct. remember, you have an h22.
You see, I have been running on this set up since late march and never had any problems with a misfire or the vtec running like it is. The car ran good and vtec cracked hard when i first put the new coil on but when we went to time it, it started dieing out and not running well. Now, even if i set it back to where i had it it still wont run. Is there a code that would have been stored in the Ecu that would have caused t motor to do this? I appreciate your help.

if you're running the external coil (the one that came stock on the h22) w/ the prelude ecu and you're still having problems with the firing...then it's something else. I don't see why there would be a code that would cause the motor to do this.
