Default Middle splitters

What exactly do middle splitters do? Do they work or is it just for show. Thanks for the help.

They create additional downforce on the front of the car. Yes they are functional on a fully race prepped car, however i think the majority of people that get them are doing it just for the look.

aluminum or plywood works just as well, and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.

Could be, but highly doubt it.. Most people want as little air as possible passing into the front grill area of the car. Any air that goes "into" the car is much worse then pushing the air over the car.

the purpose of the splitter is to get air to go over the car instead of under it. it serves a dual purpose though. the air that does get under the splitter has to "slide" along in between the ground and the bottom of the car. the air can slide faster with LESS pressure b/c the splitter makes the front underbody of the car smooth. when you decrease the pressure under the car, downforce is increased. (i should say lift is decreased on a street car).

more benefits would be achieved if the entire underbody of the car had smooth panels. a rear diffuser would also help.

build one out of aluminum.

Lighterfaster.com sells rear diffusers. Do you think they really work? If they did, my Lude would look pretty riced out, which is something I don't want!!

according to thermodynamics they work. but how much is the question. you'd have to design your own whole underbody tray to really benefit from stuff like that. i'm guessing that rear diffuser is cf? i wouldn't trust cf's brittleness on the bottom of my car.
