Default losing power?

am i losing power since i dont have a vafc on my car? I currently have i/h/p/e/high flow cat...(im an SH)

heres an example of why i am asking this question: I raced a buddy of mine with just am intake, flywheel, and the high flow cat and he keeps pullin on me (hes a BASE model) and im just confused on whats going on. Were both excellent drivers, we even switched cars and it still did the same thing. My guess is that im running too lean with all the mods ive added and the car cant compensate for it? i dont know, could somebody give me some input about this,

thanks alot

Are you both manual? What header do you have?

SH's are heavier, pulleys don't do much, and I don't think those mods would make you loose power, but OBD2 could....It'll compensate somewhat for the i/h/e and try to get the car back to stock performance...

I'd say try resetting your ECU and then race him and see what happens....

i have the POS DC header.

As for resetting the ecu. Does that mean unplugging the battery for 20 mins or so ?

and yes we are both manual.

I also wanted to ask you about OBD2. Could you clarify to me what does that actually do to the mods i have put on. does it keep it at the stock performance?

The funny part is that i ran my car at the track witih just pulleys and i ran a 15.4 @90 and my friend ran the same time. He had the intake and the flywheel. It felt like my car was actually quicker then, then now.

still confused?

thanks for the reply

Yeah, the DC doesn't help alot....

From what I understand, OBD2 is a stricter control put on cars from 96 on that controls more stuff than pre-96 cars to keep the emissions low and the car running just like Honda wants...stuff like A/F ratio, timing(?), etc....Oh, and you can't manually adjust the timing on OBD2 and you have 2 O2 sensors

For example, now you have more air going through your motor, and the ECU sees this and after a few days of driving, it says What The ****!?, and tries to adjust it to factory settings...clever, eh?

I'd do a search if you want to know more, cuz I'm no expert, but it would explain how your mods seemed to "loose" their effect.....

Yeah, you just need to undo the battery negative for a while or I've heard you can also pull the clock fuse....

Hope that helps....

obd2 starts detuning your mods after learning it for a couple of weeks, so basically you have to either remove radio fuse or unplug battery, do the obd2 workaround (always resets the ecu when car is off) or just switch it to obd1. so it's best to reset the ecu before racing your friend. you have a disadvantage in the straight line because the SH is heavier than the base, but if you autocross him, you'll have the greater advantage
