Long Term Effects of ATTS 5th Gen Preludes
I've always been a fan of honda's.. I've recently decided I'm going to buy a 5th gen prelude but need a little help with a question I've been wondering about. The question really is this.. I'm after the H22a4 in the 5th gen and eventually would like to turbo this engine. I'm not sure what effect buying the 5th gen prelude SH with the ATTS system may have in store for me in the long run. Would it be wiser to get a manual trans, base 97+ prelude and later invest in suspension rahter than buying the Prelude SH? Does the ATTS system precent tuning the car later on or is it just the same as if tuning the base model?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Base!!! Reasons: ATTS slips around 250 hp, all aftermarket engine managments you loose the ATTS anyways, Cheaper in the long run since if you want high HP you need to sleeve the block (base or SH) but the SH block is different and no other trans will bolt up, and last you save 50lbs from not having the ATTS just sitting there.
Be aware though that you can fab up a simple adapter plate and get a base model intermediate shaft, and bolt up a standard tranny and be rid of the ATTS on down the road. Just in case you see a Prelude that you really like, that just happens to have ATTS.
non sh ludes are cheaper to buy anyway...also, they are quicker (atts weighs like 2 or 3 hundred lbs or something like that) if u really are serious about putting a turbo on, get a base lude. u'll thank urself down the road.
I am goin N/A tho, so I've always wondered how much differently a SH handles compared to the base. the concept is cool, applying more torque to the outside wheel to prevent understeer, but in real life i have no clue how much of a difference it really makes
it really depends on what u want out of it tho, and what u plan to do with it when racing. but one thing is for sure: if u plan to only use the car for drag racing, do not get the sh. get a good suspension, and turbo/JRSC that lude.

I believe these are the weights of the 5th gen:
Base- 2956Lbs
SH-3042
So that would give us a difference of 88Lbs. Someone correct me if im wrong.
I noticed a huge difference with my ATTS around corners and is simply amazing for FF.

my question is how do u get rid of the atts? I have the euro type r motor an just recently like actually in the process of replacing my transmission. I’m not hip to what parts go w what etc etc so my old transmission is an M2A4 an my new one I just got is an M2U4. My old transmission I have a half shaft an then both axles but when putting everything back together all lives up perfect EXCEPT the half shaft was almost as if it wasn’t thick enough around for the teeth on the spindle to grip each other. Then I was told the transmission is for an SH...well my car is an SH....an I bough axles for an SH an they worked w my other transmission but I’m being told that the atts is why replaces the half shaft....so I’m super confused....how do I put it together without the atts unit?
