Default intermediate shaft question

does it make a difference which year intermediate shaft you use?

I have a 97 h22 would it matter if I use a 94 intermediate shaft?

I've heard that the sh wont work?

The SH has no intermediate shaft. So no that won't work. Otherwise any other H22 intermediate shaft will work for you.

the intermediate shafts are different between 4th gens and 5th gens.

if you have a 97, you need a 97+ intermediate shaft.

Really? Damn. I knoew that the 5th gens had an aluminum idler bearing bracket but I didn't know that they were dimensionally different... on me.

yeah, because the 5th gen bracket that houses the idler bearing is made of cast aluminum. The 4th gen ones are cast steel. AFAIK that's the only difference. You have a shaft and some measurement tools available. I do. Want to settle this by tonight or so?

do it. I have the 4th gen intermediate shaft at my parents house so its not available to measure.

I just know that way back when i did my JDM swap, the dude said i had to use my old intermediate shaft in order for it to work.

Well that's neat. Everything I've ever dealt with was 4th gen and I assumed the 5th gen stuff was no different. Nice to know that there's practical information out there I can still learn.
