Intermediate/Half shaft problem?
As i'm in the process of doing this huge bushing/brake/axle job i pulled both axles out b/c i need new ones and while i was down there, i saw what looked like fresh tranny fluid all over the bottom of the tranny. i noticed it awhile ago and wiped it off and if i knew if it came back it would be a leak of some sort. well, it's back again and it's right where the intermediate shaft connects to the tranny.
what does that mean? i noticed on the IS that the outer metal piece is bent. i assume that allows the fluid out of it but i also read that it's some kind of seal that causes the leak. i'm not really sure what i'm looking for to replace as i've never dealt with an IS before. i don't have the money for a new IS and i hope it's just a seal or something.
here's a pic of what i'm talking about. it's circled in red where that bent piece is and where the fluid is presumably leaking from. any help on what to do with it would be helpful.

also, i forgot to ask this:
is it absolute necessary to drain the coolant to take out the axles? i removed them without draining the fluid and it leaked a little fluid out the holes but nothing big. i just recently changed my fluid so i found no good reason too.

Yep, there is a seal where the int. shaft goes into the tranny. I replaced these last time I took off the tranny...very easy to do while you're in there.

so does the bearing and the seal just pull right out? i might as well get 2 of 'em and do both side real quick if it's easy.
what about that bent metal piece? i didn't see that listed as a seperate part i could buy. think it would be a big deal?

You'll have to pry out the seal with something thin. I used an angled razor blade...the seals are pretty sturdy so they kind-of pop out. I wouldn't really worry about that metal peice, mine's bent, too
in the pic it looks like you only need one and it says that required qty. is only 1 yet on slhondaparts.com, they list 2 #15's. does that mean one is for left side, one for right side?

Well, there's one for each side, but they're different sizes and part #'s. The only thing I can tell you for sure is get the one from Majestic...

what about # 13 in that pic? it looks likes it's the seal to the other side.
anyway, majestic doesn't have a part # on there stuff do they? i can't seem to find it.

btw, the 2 #15's on slhondaparts are the same size. that's why i'm not sure which part # to use.
