which intake
Here's the deal, I have a mostly stock 5th gen, (CF hood and some interior additions) other than the hood, no performance mods. One of my friends works at a car dealership so he can parts discounted. I would love to get a V2 intake, but I don't have alot of $ to put into my car right now. He can get me an APC intake for $60-70. Would this be worth it, or should I just wait till I have more $ to put into it
lol. Just wait and get a good intake. CAI or something. for christ sake, do not put APC parts on a prelude, PLZ. for now u can just yank off the box on the end and stick a filter on it and there is ur intake. 20 bucks tops
i think so too.. i would wait and get better intake,,,
by the way i have

save money period and get an EBAY filter on a stick with K&N cone. it's just an aluminum tube for chrissakes!
the only advantage to getting an AEM product is that it's CARB legal. and apparently the V2 is nothing special so if you want an AEM get the CAI.

Good call, I was thinking about doing that until I make up my mind or save $
digkhangboyz how much for the DC CAI
BTW...If Intakes are just a tube, how can they range from $60-250 ? Is it just a matter of the brand name or do some offer advantages over others ?

they differ because some companies like AEM spend some money on R&D, advertising, and warehousing, and doing all of the testing needed to get CARB certified, whereas the guys on EBAY don't need to do all of that expensive stuff to make an intake. Sometimes there are fitment issues, but the ONLY reason to spend $150 on an AEM CAI is the CARB sticker that makes it handy for your biannual smog check. otherwise, (in cali at least) you'd have to reinstall your OE intake every time you went to get your car smogged.
having thoroughly inspected my aem cai, i've come to the conclusion that it is a bent, 3" tube with a cone filter on the end. and that's pretty much all it is.

Well I live in NY and I don't think we have a specific 'smog' test, so unless thats part of the inspection, I don't think I would really have to worry about it, I've never had to think about it in the past.
I made an intake for $30, it works just fine. I used epoxy
to attach a cone filter to a PVC pipe (You would have to see it, but I couldn't find a PVC where the diameter would allow a hose clamp) and painted the thing metallic gray. It looks like a "professional" intake, and it's sad how well it functions. The filter also gets cool air because it is located where the stock airbox was. For a few days I would get out and inspect how the filter was doing just to make sure it hadn't fallen off or anything, and everytime the PVC was cold, I mean COLD. It felt cooler than the outside air (~85 degrees). Why spend hundreds of dollars on an AEM? Just buy a K&N and attach it to some piping.

i'm not familiar with NY state law regarding emissions, but if there isn't a stipulation about aftermarket engine parts, get a cheaper intake! you'll get the same hp as you would an AEM! most people with EBAY intakes are satisfied with them. and at $35 a pop, if they break it's still cheaper to replace it 4x than it would cost to buy an AEM...

V2 is not all that to be costing like $50-$75 more than just the regular CAI from AEM. Believe me I had the regular AEM CAI and it works the same as the V2. V2 is just thicker to keep it from getting hotter. Nothing more. If you want to do that just get the regular CAI and just get some kind of insulation wrapped around it and it will work better than the V2. All your doing is paying for the AEM brand not to mention its "supposedly better because they say it is"

see i dont understand why the AEM CAI is 3" since the stock one is not that big, our throttle body is not that big, and even's Injen's CAI is not that big, it seems the 3" would affect airflow since it doesnt sit cleanly with the TB...does this make sense to any of you.
when i get my next prelude, i am going to go with the Type S intake with K&N filter or INJEN, since i think the 3" just hinders airflow and power.
what are your thoughts on the 3" size?

the 3inch size doesn't hinder the power. Believe me i just put in a 3inch piping and it made a big difference. Perhaps like 3 car difference from rolling. I know this because I have a friend with a 3000gt and rolling he takes me like for 3 cars. Now with this 3inch CAI i am even with him. He doesn't pull from me. But either way i take him off the whole and the intake did make even a bigger difference there.

but u arent understanding my point, why would you make a pipe that is bigger than your TB? When i had mine on, the TB could fit inside the pipe, to me that shouldnt happen, the pipe should be the same size as the TB. This concerns me, since my friend with a civic has an INJEN cai intake and his pipe fit perfectly on his TB.
I am not saying the bigger pipe wont help you out, but the pipe can be too big, what is the measurement of our stock intake pipe or the Type S pipe?

I'm curious about this too.
