Default installing shocks
how much do i tighten down the nut that threads on top of the shock? my buddy says to barely tighten it, and other people say to really tighten it on there.

I'm assuming based on your name you have a 5th gen. My shop manual says 22 lb-ft for either front or rear, but this is for a 4th gen. I doubt its any different.

if you dont have a torque wrench, just make sure it is snug. Use a box end wrench and a tad bit of muscle.

ok, so pretty tight then i take it? i'v got use of a torque wrench, so if anyone knows the specific settings that would be great! thanks.

Tighten it snuggly, then when the car is on the ground recheck them to make sure they are tight.

ohhhhhhhh. i just tightened them pretty snug when it was already on the ground. so should i raise it back up and redue it?
