My car's gauges flipped out one night - my clock dimmed and went off, and my needles completely died and dropped for a couple seconds.
Later on I was warming up the car and it stalled out, and wouldn't stay started. There was a spot in the ignition positions where I could keep the car running.

I ordered an ignition switch, electrical part only, for around 60$ and replaced it, fixing the problem. It was pretty simple, although it was freezing ***** and the plug behind the sunroof/cruise switch/dimmer kicked my *** with its small *** working condition.

First you take off the steering column covers, and the knee board part of the dash.

The ignition switch is the white piece with the wires. I cut off the old white piece so that I could fish the wire bundle out easier and put the new bundle in the same locations.


stomp the mess out of the old piece of crap.

then put on the new switch and run the new bundle to the two connectors.Unplug the old ones, put in the new ones.


One is behind the dash, behind that sunroof switch.

and the other is at the fuse box, below the yellow bundle connector.

Both connectors in the pictures are empty.

 

Yep, pretty easy stuff, I did mine too.
Only my electronic ignition switch cost $79!
