Default ignition switch recall

I own a base model 1998 Honda Prelude (Not the original owner). Completely stock, with an exception to a generic aftermarket front strut bar. I have just recently been experiencing some stalling problems. Sometimes I would stall while driving on the freeway! No CEL, no warning! The car would just shut off whenever it felt like it. I've been driving myself crazy trying to figure out this problem, and just recently found out that Honda had a recall on the ignition switch in these model Preludes. This is my first time having to deal with an automobile recall. My question is, will the dealership still honor to replace my ignition switch for free, being that the car is 9 years old, and that I'm not the original owner??? How would I go about getting my ignition switch replace from the dealer? I would like to get this problem fixed, ASAP! I'm afraid I'll get into a car accident because of this problem. Any helpful replies would be greatly appreciated.

Even if they don't fix it for free, a brand new ignition switch is about $40. Not that hard to install either...

What you can do is call the dealer, they will ask for your vin# to do a vin inquiry on your car. If the ignition switch recall was not preformed then your car is still able to have this preformed free of charge . If it has been done you can still ask for the # to honda coperation to speak to a rep and tell them what going on 9 times out of 10 they will still cover it

From looking at the parts diagrams, the Civic ignition switch is not seperate like the Prelude's.

We had to have the ignition switch done on my mom's '99 Accord. $60 part, $75 labor. She had the same problem as you, and it hasn't happened since
