Default idoling question?

so i just got my alternator installed about less then 3 weeks ago. and 2 weeks after they installed it, my car starts to idol from 1000 to 1500 rpm. it would only do it at times, but now it doesn't constantly everytime i stop. and to top it off, my engine light came on. im broke, so i cant take it in for a diagnostic test.

does anyone know what might the problem be and what can cause a car to idol like that? do i have to replace or buy something?

thanks.

First off I would find out why the cel light is on. I would also check vacume lines, and the IAC valve. Also check your FIC valve under the throttle body by taking your intake tube off the throttle body and while the car running at normal temp plug the bottom hole in the throttle body with your finger. At normal temp it shouldnt be sucking any air.

Do a search on how to pull OBD codes, you can short a jumper out and it should flash a series of blips on your CEL, that will tell you the code it is.

If it sucks quite a bit even after it is warmed up to normal temp and the fans have kicked on. Then try taking it off. The metal plate that faces the firewall that is held on by two philips screws, take that plate off and inside is a white plastic piece with two indentions across from each other. Get something to turn it and tighten it. Then put it back together and hopefully that fixes it.

i cant find that valve your talking bout, "Also check your FIC valve under the throttle body by taking your intake tube off the throttle body and while the car running at normal temp plug the bottom hole in the throttle body with your finger"

i tried looking or it, but when i pulled out the valves some sort of liquid came gershing out. i think it was coolant or sum type of fluid. can you tell me more specific where the valve i have to take out and plug the hole with is at?.

and where is that metal plate w/the 2 philips screw located at? i found a plate w/two metal screws but i dont know if thats the one.
