how to check codes?

Default how to check codes?

on my way out of school today my CEL light came on. i need to find out what code(s) im throwing. now exactly where do i make the jump? ive had looked all over the place so be specific, i have never done this before. oh and the car is a 96 vtec. thanks guys

there should be a white service connector (2 prong plug) behind the center console to the right of the gas pedal, reach in behind and pull this out and use a paper clip to short it out. you'll get a reading by the amount of times it flashes. it'll start out with either long/short flashes and then switch to the other .. so 3 short and 7 long would yield code 37 for example, i can't recall if short/long is first/last.

it will start to blink as soon as you short it.
I can't recall the page for the engine codes but do a search ... if you did a search already you would have found the answer and not needed to wait for a reply.

that would be the other way around.

also im pretty sure that the connector is blue but whatever.....

long blink - count by 10's
fast blinks - count by 1's

ok i found 2 plugs next to eachother one is blue and one is a creamy white which do i jump and which do i leave in?

my $$ is on the blue one. Thats the one i use. u can use a piece of wire, cotter pin, paper clip, etc

they aren't plugged into anything, they just sit there, I posted the blue for the 4ws so i'll put my money on the white one ? (edit)

the helms also lists all of the problem codes and troubleshooting steps to find the resolution/cause of the problem as well .. ill help ya out as much as you want.. if i go idle on this thread email me, yohan_1@hotmail.com

they actaully are plugged into something but its just there to hold them so that they're not hanging....

not that it really matters to this guy because he already started another post about it
