how to check codes?
on my way out of school today my CEL light came on. i need to find out what code(s) im throwing. now exactly where do i make the jump? ive had looked all over the place so be specific, i have never done this before. oh and the car is a 96 vtec. thanks guys
there should be a white service connector (2 prong plug) behind the center console to the right of the gas pedal, reach in behind and pull this out and use a paper clip to short it out. you'll get a reading by the amount of times it flashes. it'll start out with either long/short flashes and then switch to the other .. so 3 short and 7 long would yield code 37 for example, i can't recall if short/long is first/last.
it will start to blink as soon as you short it.
I can't recall the page for the engine codes but do a search ... if you did a search already you would have found the answer and not needed to wait for a reply.

that would be the other way around.
also im pretty sure that the connector is blue but whatever.....
long blink - count by 10's
fast blinks - count by 1's
here is a link to check the codes after you get the number
