hit vtec, threw code 8
alright, well i jsut got a jdm h22a w/ m2b4 tranny swapped into my 96 si
i picked it up form the shop today and to make sure everything was working i eased it into vtec in 2nd gear, as soon as vtec engaged the check engine light came on. i shifted into 3rd and slowed down. i then again tried to get it into vtec, it wouldnt engage and the rev limit hit at 6500.
i got it home and checked the code, it was a code 8, top dead center sensor.
now im htinking that when vtec hit the timing belt skipped a few notches and threw the code? it also makes a slight ticking sound after the code came on. it wasnt making this sound before i left the shop
now when i had the shop do the swap i had them replace all the usual sutff, timing belt, balance belt, clutch, plugs, wires etc
do you think that the shop could have fucked up the timing belt install and that is why this code is coming on??? im not really sure how to change the timing blet but i think you have to set it at tdc for the timing??(not really sure)
it also is overheating now too, the fans work, and the collant is filled and in the radiator. im thinking maybe faulty thermostat or temperature plugs? im gonna replace them and see if it still overheats cause im thinking its just the gauges are saying its overheating but its not really overheating cause it doesnt feel any hotter than usual...
any thoughts guys???

So you JUST picked up your car and you started running it hard?? The new parts still have to break in. I don't think you gave them time.
I think you might have skipped timing.

your TDC sensor is probably broken, ive seen a bunch craked or broken , its on the back of the motor and often times gets broken during the swap and no one notices, if you wanna check it out its located on the block below the IM on the back side of the motor, id start there
make sure the TDC Sensor is plugged in!!!!!!!!
Its on driver side in a weird spot, slightly behind the motor, around the shock tower. I had the same problem when we first started my car till i found that little bastard. I was the only one whose hands could plug that SOB in, so good luck.
tell me if you need a pic

well im guessing that its a problm with the swap,
its probably a conflict between whcih ecu they used and the ditributor.
until i know for sure im going to say you can't mix and match distirubtors and ecus of different odbs

well ive found the problem ( i think)
the TDC sensor is actually inside of the distributor..my buddy that works at honda brought over a huge prelude manual(left it at my hosue too
) and we foudn the problem.
only way to replace the tdc snesor is to replace the whole distributor so hes gonan get me a new distributor and new temp sensors and thermostat and see how it goes.
im curious though, the tdc sensor is inside the distributor( we found it in the huge manual and i heard it from other peopel on a different site) so if its in the distributor, what is the sensor on the back of the block that two of you have mentioned on here?
