Help Please evap code
Hey all, Im a really tight bind. Im trying to get my car smoged before I get in big trouble with the state of california. The check engine light is on and found out that it is an evap code Im throwing. Ive already replaced the gas cap. Where are the most common sites for a breakdown in the evap system. I have a 99 base prelude that is 100 percent stock. Any help that you can give me would be great. Thanks to you all. And happy holidays in advance.
Well you could keep guessing like you didi with the gas cap. or take it to shop and have them run a smoke test. Cost between 60-80 bucks and will tell you whats leaking. Then replace the faulty component/hose.
The computer checks the evap system by running a test , I think it puts the system in a vacume and checks for increase in pressure.
Check this web site out it has the manuals for 5 gens get the fuel and emissions it should have the way of testing the system out.

A smoke test wont reveal an internal leak. Try this:
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
2. Clamp the hose between the two-way valve and fuel tank.
3. Disconnect the hose between the canister and the two-way valve at the two-way valve port.
4. Attach a hand vacuum pump to the port on the two-way valve.
5. Read the voltege at the FTP sensor, note the voltage reading.
6.Apply 2 inches of vacuum to the two-way valve and watch the FTP sensor voltage. If the voltage drops more than .05 volts in 20 seconds, replace the two-way valve and the bypass solenoid valve, retest.
This is a very common problem on this particular Prelude.

If I continue to drive with the code I won't go in limp mode or unable to hit vtec? In future going to convert to obd1 chipped ecu. So in meantime can I drive with that code?
