help please
hi there,
i found a prelude that i might pick up. it is a red 5 speed 1997. its in good condition but it has some rust and corrosion on the bottom of the frame near the wheels. i think its called the wheelwell? i can see if it has a little rust by there, but i dont understand how it got to the point where it was actually corroding a little, and has a hole. will this affect anything? i wasnt sure if it could make more problems in the future.
thanks
nick

Ill recomend you to keep searching for another lude. If you can see damages on the body I wouldnt eliminate the posibility of any other problem (interior/engine), have you check those specfic areas?
yes...the interior is mint, and the engine is fine, i looked at it and heard it running. the condition of the body overall is very good exept for minor scratches, but idk how that little bit of corrosion came into play
i see you are from NY so it may explain why of the corrosion. If you already inspected the engine and it looked in good condition your next step is to take a test drive, and carfax. good luck!
yeh that could be a reason. but it didndt happen like that on my brotheres 94 civic he has now. w/e though. i have to test drive, but i did pull up a clean history already
since you are from the northeast like i am i recommend not buying any honda with wheel well rust on it. not unless you want to pay for a new qtr panel or a new metal piece put in a few years down the road.
the wheel well rusts from the inside and rots outward. one day, you'll notice it's almost gone and by then, it's to late.
you can have a body shop or yourself fix it and then seal the **** out of it but it's a lot of work. trust me.

the salt they use on the roads in the winter is hell on cars. Rust in the wheelwell wont cause any problems itself, but its a sign of the condition the parts you can't see are in.
