Default Help with CEL code!!!

The other my CEL and ATTS lights came on. Car still ran the same i could not tell any difference in the performance. I went to Advanced Auto to get the codes checked. IT came out as P0401 EGR Flow Insufficient. does this mean that i have to replace the EGR valve? What could cause this code to come up.

Thanks
Dan

Insufficient flow could be your EGR sticking through being made up with deposits or ports restricted with gunge, try cleaning EGR in carb cleaner first.

If that doesnt do it then it is possible that the EGR port on the intake manifold is full of gunk. To clean that the intake manifold needs to come off the car.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem, replaced the egr, still the cel comes on, the mechanic who did the install cleaned the intake ports as best he could without removing the im, and honda gave him another new egr just in case, still with the cel, so I did the "suck" test on the egr vacuum hose to manually open the valve, the engine should labor or stall with the egr open at idle, mine slowed about 200 rpm, but didn't stall. Also manually jumpered the egr solenoid to eliminate that as a possibilty, works fine. Only things left are blocked egr ports or bad ecu, don't think the ecu is bad though, they very rarely fail, apparently, so I'm gonna try cleaning or replacing the im, someone was kind enough to post instructions if you want them, can't vouch for their accuracy just yet though, may also replace the im with something a little bigger (skunk2).

its really not that hard to get the IM off. Just make sure you dont drop any of the bolts. I dropped 2 and spent like 4 hrs looking for them. lol

Yeah, I don't feel like taking mine off either, check the egr first, that's the easy part. If you're lucky, that'll take care of it.

Well i took off and cleaned my EGR today, it was a mess, i took like 30 min and made it nice and clean. I put everything back together and took it out for a drive everythign was fine. I was driving tonight and the CEL came back on. IM guessing i have to take the IM off. Can anyone tell me how to go about doing this. Is there a write up or somethign

There's a link here for an exploded diagram of a 5th gen intake manifold, can't help you further as I've never taken mine off, I would suggest getting a Helms if no one can supply a write up.
