Default Headers for H23A1

Hi All. I have been reseaching the headers available for my BB2. Mugen is out of my price range . I have heard DC headers are identical to the OEM headers, so dont see the point in getting them. I am interested in the megan racing headers but have heard mixed reports regarding their performance. Basically i am looking for some headers which will give me a mild increase in torque and power, and also that are quality made so that they last. My price range is about $350 to $550. Any advice, recommendations or further info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What are your mods? How much power are you making? A DC header will support 200whp. So unless you're making 60 horsepower more than stock I would get a DC, Megan or similar knockoff and consider other modifications to your engine that will yield more power for your dollar.

thankyou for the info so far. I'm leaning towards megan racing headers now. Good to know mugen dont make them to fit h23a1, now i know they aren't even an option, thanks. Pirate, re: my BB2 info. Its a daily driver. Its Auto. So i aint looking to make this baby a race car or dragger. I just want it to have a bit more grunt than standard. Only mods so far, AEM C.A.I, powerflow rear muffler (tri-flow) so keeps her fairly quite, important when running an auto. So current project, Headers, high-flow cat. And avoid rice at all costs . Future plans, suspension setup.

Yeah, just get a Megan header. It's really the best choice for an H23 without going custom and not aiming for a crazy NA build. It's basically the same as a DC, and they are both better than stock.

I have megan header on my h23, a lot better than that log manifold and noticable power increase.

Thanks all for your advice. Definately going to go for the megan racing headers. It appears that they will give me the bit of extra torque and power i am looking for. Any further advice, info much appreciated but everyones responses so far have been great, just what i needed to know, Thanks. I have been saving for quite a while to do this upgrade, so really looking forward to getting the headers and putting them on. Will be sure to post a few picks once she is up and running on the new gear.

A header and muffler will not benefit much with the tiny cat and cat to muffler system that is robbing you of power.

Full system (2.25" minimum) or not at all IMO.

Pirate: I am planning on installing a high-flow cat at the same time as the header installation and running new 2.25 inch pipe all the way back to the muffler. Thanks for the advice. My own research lead me to the same conclusion.

What about vibrant? Or do they not make them for h23?

vibrant is how much 500 bucks? Please you can get a megan header and downpipe for 100 bucks and invest that 400 into a new exhaust pipe.

Thankyou, one and all for all the input . I checked out the price of a megan racing high-flow cat and it fits well into my budget. So my setup is going to be the megan headers + high-flow cat, then new 2.25" piping back to the powerflow muffler i got 6mths ago. Just got to get the parts now and install it all, cant wait.

Wait he don't live in America. If that be true, I can't do that. Sorry I really don't deal out of the USA. I have before in the past and had more issues with shipping than I care to deal with again.

Hey Acidcrakker and all, i appreciate the offer you made and understand that shipping overseas can be a bitch so dont worry about it, but thanks anyway for offering me the parts. I have found a local man who can get me the parts in with cheap shipping, just have to wait a while because he brings stuff in to Australia in bulk to reduce his freight costs. So i am all set to get my parts most likely by early January. I aint in no rush, i love my lude and plan to keep it for life, so i have plenty of time to do the mods i want. I fell in love with the shape of the BB2, when i first saw one in 1992. It took me 11years to get one and now i have one i just want to keep it in good shape and customise it to my liking, but no rice or turbos for me. Before i got my BB2, i had a 1984 2nd gen, i drove it approx 850K a week for 4 years and besides minor services, brake pads and a timing belt, i spent very little on it and it was an extremely reliable car and enjoyable to drive. That led me to my love of Honda and the excellent cars they produce. Thanks All, will let you know how things go with the install when it happens.

Megan, DC, OBX, etc. all those headers are the same, 2". They are however different from stock h23 header. They are basically the same as a stock h22 header. I have a Megan on my H23. I put it on the same day I got custom exhaust and my intake so I don't know the exact gains but it was a noticeable difference. Good enough to get me a 15.35 in the 1/4 which is decent for an H23.

I would recommend getting the Megan if anything. It's cheaper and probably better quality than the DC. Had mine almost a year and no problems what so ever.

I got mine for $155 shipped, new. So with your $550 range, I recommend getting an intake if you dont have one, 2.5" collector mod (before you put the header on), and custom 2.5" exhaust with the muffler of your choice. You may also want to get a high flow cat and/or resonator. I'm running a 22" reso with test pipe and have a "quiet" muffler and it still has a rumble. I had a Magnaflow XL Turbo on and it was considerably loud so I highly discourage test pipe.
