Default header question????

what are the differences in prelude vtec headers from the years 93-96 applications to 97-01 applications?? i know the 93-96 applications have a little bit longer outlet on them, but is that all? and does anyone know the how much longer the 93-96 prelude header is than the 97-01?

thanks

why does it matter? you have to chop up the exhuast anyways to fit it. may as well buy the Greddy header though.

I would say that the 93-96 header is more restrictive, and the 97+ is freer flowing. The 93-96 VTECs seem to gain considerably more from a DC Sports header. Meanwhile, the 97-01 Preludes gain very little from the same DC Sports header design.

this may help it may not. the new import tuner does a 97 vtec type sh in its power pages. and they discuss installing a header from a 93-96 vtec motor. its a greddy header and it comes in 2 peices. whether the type sh is drastically different from the non they didnt say. but in the sh applcation the had to modify the mounting brackets on the secondary pipe to fit the type sh oil pan configuration. hope this helps.

i am talking about after market.. and i wanted to know for this reason: i have a h22a4 in my civic.

if i buy a header for the 97-01 it will bolt up to everything the way i have it now. ex:i have a gutted cat on my stock exhaust manifold.

but i was thinking since the 93-96 headers are longer, that maybe if i bought one of those i could eliminate my cat.... maybe? maybe not?...just sort of have header to exhaust pipe and no cat. but if the 93-96 is not long enough then i will just get a 97-01 application.

if you want to eliminate your cat, then run a test pipe. its just a straight through pipe and will cause a loss in torque, make it much louder, and gains in HP. have one custom made for your hybrid and you should be good to go.
