Icon2 Hail damage and black stuff problem

I just bought a 98 Honda Prelude about a month and a half ago. It went trough a hail storm about three days after I got it. Damaging the trunk, roof, hood, and onside of my car. I have been wanting to get it fixed, and didn't know the easiest way. If I should buy new parts, or take it to a shop. Repainting my car is in store also. There is one more problem that I have, my exhaust is leaving black stuff all over the back of my car. I have read a couple posts and heard different things, from the cat needing replaced, sea foam, and just carbon build up. I have ran out of ideas. Anyones comments or help would be helpful.

as far as your exhaust.. all h series do this. mainly becuase the stock oil rings let a little oil through to burn in the combustion chamber leaving you carbon and all kinds of goodies that build up

normally black build up around the exhaust means your running too rich. how long are we talking here? if you wash it off how quickly does it come back?

I just recently had the exact same problem. It's your vehicle burning rich because of a faulty catalytic converter. I had to replace my cat and both o2 sensors. I bought 2 NGK/NTK O2 sensors from Amazon ($40 each) and a Magnaflow Catalytic converter from eBay ($100).

it sucks spending the money, but i would go ahead and buy the cat and 02 sensor. your car will run faster and have better gas mileage

I wish my running rich problem was just a cat. I need a tune. But can't afford it at the moment.

(my fuel pressure reader shows about 10-12 lbs of pressure more than it's supposed to be. I think I have Hummer gas mileage lol.)

The guys have you covered on the exhaust issue, as for the hail damage, if the dents are not creased, try to find a PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) service in your area. Those guys can work wonders. A friend of mine does this work in my area, and i set him loose on my car before it went in to be painted, and he saved me a lot of prep work and/or buying new panels. My old color hid about a billion little dents in my fenders from bending over to work on the engine that would have stuck out like sore thumbs with the new black paint. All of them are now gone and the fenders look like new.

Fuel pressure regulator may be going bad. Or do you have an adjustable one you can dial down?
