Default h23 n/a build with h22 pistons...

I'm planning on Web regrinds and an s-afc II in the near furure. I was also considering the h22s pisons in my stock block. Is there any other area I should upgrade with this set up? Is it as easy as swapping in the parts? For the sake of greater engine durabillity, should I throw in some h22 oil squirts?

I'm not even sure H22 pistons will just "bolt right in" like you're thinking.

Someone else can back me up or correct me on this though.

As far as quality, there really isn't any metalergical difference between the two pistons that I know of, but oil squirters are always nice to have.

If you want that extra .2 compression THAT BADLY, then just mill your head.

I had heard/thought that putting h22 pistons in a h23 will bump it up to 11.0:1 or 11.5:1 (not sure which) compression not just .2 more

correct me if i'm wrong.

The h22 pistons should bump compression up to 11:1, the Type S is 12.8:1. Thing is that the h22 has a floating wrist pin. I'm not sure of what needs to be done with the con rods to make it work.

The h23 is not pointless, the f22 is. The h23 has all the stuff a good engine needs like dohc and a closed deck. The 30hp I get doesn't justify the $2000- $3000 needed to do the swap. Besides, I have yet to be owned by an h22.

if you put h22 pistons in a h23 the piston will hit the head. we learned it the hard way. the obd2 h22's had floating pins, the 92-96 motors didnt. and closed deck means nuthing for all motor apps..

Are you sure about the H22's hitting the h23's head?

I have a set of USDM H22 pistons sitting here, I got to tear into my H23 and replace them; i've been told that the H22's will drop right in and bump to compression to 11.1:1, per Satan_SRV....and it shouldn't hit the head, it would hit the valves first, right?

unless it was the machine shop ******* **** up that caused it. but we put some jdm h22 pistons in a h23 and the piston hit the head. didnt hit the valves but it was the quench areas. when we pulled it apart we could see where it had hit and then we noticed that the piston was coming out of the head slightly.....

Yeah, the JDM H22's put the H23 at 11.6:1 CR, once again per Satan_SRV. They have the same bore, wrist pin height, etc...it's just the domed head that bumps the compression up. Does anyone know if the H23 valves' reliefs match up w/ the H22's? I don't think the USDM H22's should be a prob in the H23, but I'll tell ya soon enough; i'm dropping them in mine and i'm gonna clay the motor first to make sure.
