h23 knocking
I have a h23 engine laying around my garage that when pulled knocked and would die when put into gear. I have it on an engine stand I have removed the oil pan and valve cover to look for anything that is broken or bent and I haven't see anything that looks messed up. I was just wondering if anyone might know what I should be looking for or could tell me what they think is wrong with it, that would be great. I just want to know what to look for, before I tear down the head and the block. I want to see if I could sell it as is or if I should just send it out to get built up for a turbo for a swap it into a Prelude I have. Thanks.

if its anything like mine was, the shop wanted more then it would cost to buy a new engine to fix mine. Depending on how badly it spun, which it sounds like its pretty bad, you might have to replace the crank, the mains, and get a line bore. if thats the case its going to cost you alot for labor, unless you can do it yourself. I personally opted for just getting a new engine.

knock knock whos there, sounds like another h23 down the drain. if you motor was knocking to the point that it stalled it self , this is BAD , getting a block fixed that has spun one or more mains if very difficult, and not only can the crank be damaged but sometimes the block is damaged beyond reapir. IF it really comes down to it, if that was my lude and it was either buy a new motor or junk it, i would prob buy a 98+ h22 crank that has the 55m crank journals, and buy h22 rods, and have the block machined to take away the bad matterial, and that would mean a line bore that bored the mains from 50mm to the 55 mm spec in the helms, for the 98+ h22, or just buy an h22 swap
