H22A1 Engine Code and Alternaotr question
My buddy has an h22a1 vtec swapped into a 92 civic and it needs a new alternator.
2 questions... what is the engine code for the h22a1 vtec? (8th vin digit)
Also.. will an alternator from a non-vtec work on the vtec?
thanks

H22 has a 6-rib pulley system, while the H23 (non VTEC) has a 5-rib system, the alternator is the same. He is sure

Re: (Momentum)
92-96
not positive why the different #'s, what i do know, is that i had an h23 that the alternator went out on. i took an H22A alternator, swapped the pulleys, and haven't had any problems since.

Re: (vlang29)
So for the 92-96 preludes came two engines... H22A1 vtec and H23 non-vtec?
And alternator is the same?
ANyone have any idea what the engine code (8th vin digit) for both engines is?
I would have to take the pullay off the old alternator and put it on the new one though? How easy do they come off/stich over?

and also F22 non-vtec SOHC
not 100%, but i believe the thing to look for is: BB1 for vtec, and BB2 for h23

Yeah, 3 engines (F22 SOHC, H23 DOHC, H22 DOHC VTEC, Prelude S, Si and VTEC respectively).
Why are you so worried about VINs?
Yes, take the pulleys off and swap. Any auto parts store can do it minutes if you don't have the tools. Or you can just use a 5-rib belt on your H22.

correct. They are very easy to change. spray the nut with some PB blaster penetrating oil, will make it even easier

I don't see why not?... I use a 3-rib belt with my D-series alternator with a H 5-rib crank pulley. 5 vs. 6 ribs can't be enough of a difference to cause a problem.
