Default H22A Installed: 2 Problems

I have a 92 Prelude Si. I just put in a H22A.
The vtec is kicking in and everything seems to work wonderfully. I still have two issues though:

1) At exactly 5,000 RPM’s there is a vibration type noise coming from what seems to be the right side in the engine compartment, it does this in every gear at the exact same RPM’s. At first, I thought it was my metal CAI vibrating against the body, but it’s not that. It sounds sort of like a valve or something that is trying to open up or something. There is no performance loss when this happens, but I would like to know what it is.

2) After the engine has been warmed up and been driven, the RPM’s rise and surge from less than 1,000 RPM’s to about 1,500 RPM’s and does this continually at idle. No check engine light.

Where does the redline start on this H22 and where does the rev limiter kick in?

The Vtec seems to kick in hard at 5,000 RPM’s, is this where it is supposed to kick in?

What do most guys do about their tachs? Do they get an external tach, or do they get an aftermarket dash? What would you do?

Also, I bought a JDM tranny, but didnt use it. This is why: EVERYONE has told me that my USDM tranny mount would fit the JDM tranny...IT DOESNT! The bolt pattern is way off. Does anyone know about this? What mount will fit a JDM H22A tranny? The one from my H23 tranny sure wont! If anyone that has pics of any trannies, pls post them.

Thanks to anyone that can answer any of these questions!

never heard that about the tranny mount...mine lined up perfectly, your idle is a vacumn leak, youll have to look hard to find it...and the other noise is maybe your secondaries? they open at the same time as vtec...so hopefull that will help, btw you need to put in that JDM tranny, youll be faster, shorter gearing..peace

that black box is used to hold manifold vacum for your secondary runners, thats how your ecu opens and closes them...basically the manifold creates pressure..and holds the butterflies shut, at a certain rpm the ecu sends a signal, and the box releases its pressure, which allows the runners to open up..peace

yo, thanks man

And 1 more question about the h22, on the intake manifold right by the throttlle rotor controlling the secondary butterflies, there is a harness connector right in front of it on the right that is white I believe -- and located right on the side of the intake manifold, can someone identify this?

TIA

that black box does not control the secondaries, it a thing in the stock intake box to open at a certian rpms, which you tore out w/your cai install. take it out and cap off the vacume line. the secoundaries are controlled by the vacume line on the diaphram on the side of the intake, if you take off the line while the car is running you will see it open, and close when you reconnect it.

for the idel are you sure the cold start valve and the iab are connected right? there should be a small coolent hose that runs from the block to the tb, out the tb into this thing in the fron of your manifold, then out it and back into the block. bypassing this was an old trirck to keep intak temps down and gain a few hp, but cause the idle to surge like that. also make sure the other diaphram thing on the front of the manifold connects to the intake you installed.

My IAB box fucked up so i took it off, if you look at the diagram where hose 12 connects on the back of the intake manifold, i run it open with no plugs, if you plug it the motor dies out. On hose 13 where it connects to the piece that controls the secondaries i have the hose T'd into the intake manifold and fuel pressure regulator line. The starting air valve is the part you remove and put a filter over when you install a cold air intake. I plan on having a new IAB as well as IAB check valve installed because i believe this is why i am throwing a check engine light, sucky thing is it wont pull a code, it just blinks and blinks and blinks.

OK, I finally have pics of the JDM tranny that came with my H22. I also will post pics that I found off of the net of what the tranny mount stud configuration that my mount will fit.

Here is the problem, the mount stud pattern of the image with only the transmission is completely and way different than what will fit my stock tranny mount which looks like the ones in the other pictures.

I will Paypal the first pic that I read either on this forum or other forums who leads me to a tranny mount that will work $30!

Sorry...couldnt figure out how to post pic. Pics of tranny can be viewed at http://63.144.16.232/browsable/tranny

the tranny has the same bolt pattern as my h23a does. Trust me, your stock h22a mount will work. you have to take the 3rd bolt with the stud off, then when its in place with the mount, install it then.
