Icon5 Flywheel weights!!

I have a 5th gen prelude. Ok I'm having a hard time choosing which one I wanna go with. I wanted something that was daily drivable so I went with the competition clutch 12 lb flywheel but after I got it. It came out to almost 14 pounds when I weighed it. Flippin false advertisement...So I'm wondering if the ACT street flywheel is near 12 lb or under. And also I might want exedy 10 lb or fidanza 8 lb if they don't fall below vtec. I just want something thatll improve my acceleration really well without large negative aspects. Please help if you know any info.

What does the weight have to do with Vtec?

I have a Fidanza 8lb. For city use.... don't even think about it. I've not adjusted my idle, so from just slapping it on I idle at 600 at the lowest but average 700rpm. Gives me a little more low end but I regret not getting a better clutch than an exedy stage 1...

Almost everything varies in weight than what the factory says - everything from different scales to improvements in the design and lack of updating the spec sheets.

Yeah besides that its "fidanza" brand instead of like ACT i didnt want to go with a 8lb that really seems overkill for street and strip. The lighter the weight means the faster the flywheel accel/decelerates so between shifts im pretty sure it would drop well below vtec (5000-5200) on the 1-2 shift and maybe in between the 2-3 shift. that is a lost in power and gain in time on timeslips and thats what i meant by overkill on strip.

If you can id appreciate it if you can tell me where it drops at between all the shifts when you shift at redline(7400) and rev limit(8000) on different runs NOT powershifting. even better if you could record it lol.

Yeah, the rotational mass of the motor slows down so much faster with the 8lb - however I have no issues with it dropping during acceleration. I'll try to get a video tomorrow or Friday. I don't power shift - ever - my syncros are going bad and I don't beat on the car. Hell i think it's only see 7k maybe 5 times since i've owned it lol. clutch to the floor and full release during every shift, after checking around other stage 1's, sometimes i feel like i got screwed and actually have an oem replacement in there... although i can feel it catching alot better than previously (long story - but my old clutch was fine)

I got the ACT Streetlite flywheel and a Clutchmasters stage 2 kevlar clutch put in about a month ago. The Streetlite is actually about 13 pounds for a Prelude instead of 12. But when I was deciding which flywheel to get, I chose the Streetlite instead of Prolite because of all the opinions that other people had. I didn't wanna get the 8 pound if it would be a pain in the *** for a DD (especially with the Stage 2), and also so many people were saying 8 pounds is way too light, will make your car slower, rpms drop way too low, you could have clutch chatter because of it, blah blah blah.

So far I like the Streetlite, but honestly I wish I would've went lighter. It's really not any harder to drive even with the stage 2 clutch, only problem is getting used to the engagement point being right off the floor with this clutch. But I haven't noticed the Streetlite being too incredibly different from stock; but it does rev a little bit faster. As for the rpms dropping, not at all. Only thing I've seen with rpms dropping too much is if I'm cruising at about 35-40 in 4th gear then shift to 5th, the rpms drop a little. But if I'm accelerating there's no problem.

Hope this helps, I haven't really been able to test it at redline or anything yet since I am still in the break in period with my clutch.

I have 12lb and the only downside is when it is really hot out, when shifting to neutral it will sometimes (very rarely) stall out, and I am most certain it is the light flywheel causing it. Simple raise of the idle will solve that

Flat shift and don't worry about the revs dropping

Thanks in advance. and yeah thats what i was worrying about the stage 1 exedy. i thought it would be barely a difference. i wanted something to perform well

thanks for the video but what tranny is the m2f4? stock usdm h22a1? because jdm trannys have slightly different gear ratios to vary the rpm drop. and whats the rim and tire size stock?

yeah i was afraid the 12 lb wont do much. but i knew it was the way to go for a DD and a harsh stage 2 clutch. im still hoping it will if i put mine in.

Keep the gas pedal on the floor when you shift.... Don't lift.

Have been using a fidanza 8lb for a couple of years now and no problems at all, can't compare response since balance shaft hasn't been used since it was installed and I had a H23a1 before all that.

x2! Been driving with my Fidanza 8lbs flywheel since 09. And no problem whatsoever. Faster acceleration if you ask me.

Driving 8lbs Fidanza flywheel + all lightweight pulleys except AC for about 3 years with no problem. Mostly streets. Was not measured on dyno before/after, but I like it

Perfect, thanks.

It's hard to judge just how light all these flywheels are unless we're comparing to stock.
