Is this plastic piece neccissary? I'd assume not since it would probably trap water and cause rust formation. If removed, should I put some sort of sealant/protector in there (ie silicone, paint, etc)?

I dont have any in my car and my wire harness hung down too low and rubbed the tire and all the wires were crossing and everything, it was a mess, but if you do decide to get rid of em, let me know cuz I'm lookin to put some back in my car just to keep it lookin cleaner.

 

so that molding also houses a wiring harness?

 

thats just the rubber piece glued to the fender lip....my lude didnt have them on when i bought it.....i pulled them off my accord bc i thought it was a rust trap...
