Check the purge solenoid. Its located next to the cruise control actuator. It should click "purge" when the engine is warm and running. Check the black/yellow wire for 12v. Ground the red/yellow wire with a backprobe. This will give the solenoid full command and there should be vacuum on the outlet side of the solenoid. If there is no vacuum, the solenoid is bad.

You must have a 97 model prelude. These differ slightly than other 5th gens. Your best bet is take it to a dealer.

^ Stupid answer.

Any difference will be noted in the Service Manual.

Ha Ha Kronn! This system is more elaborate than other systems. It might not be possible for a novice to repair. Im not going to post by post all the steps required to diagnose this car. Especially component location. You offered the same reponse. "Check the service manual" or "find a Honda tech" offer the same value. NONE. So my answer is just as stupid as your answer.

He'd still be better off taking it to a mechanic vs the stealership. Even though I'm sure he can tackle this himself. Just read the section a few times and it'll make sense.

Kornkid, if you need, I can post any wiring schematic for our cars.

Sorry about that! I really dont understand why Honda used a purge switch on 97 5th gen. If you decide to go OBD2 and Kronn hooks you up with a diagram, The purge switch is that round component near the throttle body. Good luck Kornkid.

OK, good. When it stops clicking, disconnect outlet the hose on the purge solenoid, leave the vacuum hose to the manifold connected. With the engine running, ground the red/yellow wire. There should be manifold vacuum present at the hose. If not, the purge solenoid is bad for sure.

No, leave it plugged in. You can backprobe it with a sharpened paperclip or similar. Your always welcome to come back to ABQ! Cool Honda crowd here.
