Default Engine Swap

I have a 94 honda prelude si and it currently has an h23a1 engine on it, going to swap it out for a JDM h22A in the coming month. What I wanted to know is will I still pass smog? If not what do I have to do to modify it to pass smog? And also when ordering parts do I say 94 honda prelude si or say the car that the engine came from? thank you. One more thing, im going to boost this engine, would I buy a kit for the h22A or the h23a1?

Not sure about the smog portion of the question but id imagine if you keep the existing smog equipment on your car and use it with the new engine, you should be fine. but thats me guessing.

As far as parts basicly everything is the same for ordering parts for a 93 si vtec model.

For turbo kit you would do the same as to ask for the kit for a h22a prelude aka si vtec model.

Don't buy a kit. Piece it together yourself in regards to the turbo system. It will likely end up cheaper, and your parts can be of higher quality if you choose to go that route.

Being that you are going to swap the motor yourself, you should consider building the motor's internals before you boost. Anything you want to do, you should do now.

Smog will pass likely as long as the h22 is running how it should be I would think. You'll have to check with your local regluations but if it would pass an E-test I would think you should be safe (I'm in canada though so I got no clue to your specific laws) Just call your local MTO and ask them about motor swaps. They'll likley have no clue anyway though LOL.

Post pics when you start your install of your h22 if you can. People like reading this stuff.

Hows your block on your h23a1 anyway? You could always try an h23vtec with all the usefull info here in H-t aswell as access to the parts you'll need. The only added cost really (unless your h23 block is ****ed) is engine management ie. ecu. Can't rev the motor as high though but the powerband and output I feel more than make up for that. Being your comming from driving an h23a1 your not going to miss high reving as you would not hopefully experienced it with your current motor. Lots of options anyway.

Im swapping out the engine because the engine is pretty much gone. The rod bearings are bad and the crankshaft is f'ed up, and the engine also has a cracked exhaust manifold. So I decided it would be better to part out with the engine and just swap it for the H22A, I also heard that Greddy makes a carb legal turbo kit, but I didn't see anything for the prelude. Another option would be go supercharged, but I heard that going supercharged will cause detonation at 6 psi not sure if that's true; I want to run low boost (psi) for the street. The Bar website stated that it is legal as long the engine is of the same class as the vehicle as in example car for car, truck for truck, and is the same or newer engine than the original car had in the first place with and all emissions equipment in place. But I dunno if this is the same for JDM engines.

I don't think you'll be able to pass the visual inspection with a JDM H22A motor in your car, since your car originally came with a USDM H23A1. You need to verify your CARB rules.
