Engine Replacement Opinions
Hello, I know alot of information is in older posts, but I was hopeing to get some opinions on my specific situation. Sorry if this seems like a repeat post from the past.
I have a 95 SR-V w/ 150,000mi. I have no reason to feel this way, but I'm afraid to beat on the car at all. Even starting it is like "Man, I hope it does ok today." The car does run smooth and pulls hard, but I'm looking at a year from now this might not be the case. I don't want to rush into something because I need to go to work the next day or something.
Preventative maint. is done regularly. I've done lots of work on the car myself(part of the reason for my fears). I'm confident in my work, but on a car that spins up to 7.5k w/ 150,000mi it seems I should have a guy from Japan shipped over to work on my car.
So as for motor swap what is your idea of the right way to change out a motor for reliability, and costs?
Should I drop in a JDM motor that I know nothing about?
Should I buy a built motor from a company in the States?
SHould I buy the parts and build the motor?
I understand what goes into building a motor, and I would like to do it as a project, but I would need more time to make sure everything was being done correctly. Also it would cost me to buy all the specialized tools, and a motor stand and shazz.
I think I got all the required information in here. Ohh yeah, I'm not agenst making more horespower in the process, just not loosing reliability.
Maybe in terms of money I should just save up for an S2000, and end my relationship with the Prelude.
Sorry for the long posts I just want opinions of what YOU would do and maybe why. If you want to flame me then thats your opinion too. Set me straight, lol
Thanks
matt
