hey guys, so if i rebuilt my engine with stronger internals, would it last alot longer than using stock parts? how much would a typical engine rebuild cost? how much would a rebuild with stronger internals cost?

Just parts?
Stock stuff, I'd just do rings and bearings. Under $500 bucks on parts including new headgasket, seals, rings, etc etc.

Aftermarket internals?
Pistons: $400+
Rods: $400+
Head work: $200-$2000
Block work: $800+

How fast do you want to go?

Unless you are going to add boost or nitrous there is no reason to rebuild your engine with forged parts. Forged pistons require a resleeved block, which is roughly $900. If you are just rebuilding it for NA duty pick up some JDM pistons, USDM/JDM rods, and USDM/JDM crank.

hmm what if i wanted to rebuild my h23a for turbo? with stronger internals, how much would it cost total for rebuild + turbo? approximate cost? 6k? more? and how many miles would the engine last for like around 225-250 to the wheels daily driven

I've been quoted:
$1075 for Crower rods and JE pistons.
$900 for a resleeved block
$500 to replace bearings, gaskets, ARP bolts
$500 to put it together.
That's $3000 and you haven't gotten to the head yet.
You could piece together a nice custom turbo kit for $3500(You'll want a custom kit to put out the most power your engine can handle after dropping $3000+ on the block)
Add $1000 for an AFC, boost controller, turbo timer, and dyno time to tune it.
$7500 so far and I know I left things out.
Then you'll need at least $1000 in suspension to get the tires to hook up.
$500 for a new clutch to be installed.
$500 for drag radials because you'll never catch on stock rubber.
$600 for some rotas to mount them on.
I'll stop now this is getting a bit lengthy.
The engine should last for a long time, provided you maintain it and replace/fix parts when they break.

If you want a motor built for turbo, I have a complete H22A ready to go. It has Darton Sleeves, JE 9:1 Pistons, Crower Rods, ACT Heavy Duty PP and Street Disk, VTEC (Of course), stock head (can include Ferea Valvetrain for an extra fee). It is a 97 H22A4 with a OBD I conversion. I have the distributor with Magnacore plug wires, starter, P13 ECU, and much more. Email me at brandon.gilstrap@verizon.net if you are interested. I can provide pics if you need them. Oh, the motor only had 20,000 before the rebuild and has 500 miles on it currently. Here is the orginial post I put up on this site https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=108616 , but I am a motivated seller now. Got to get money for the Hondata!

I tried to email you on the motor, but it didn't go through. So , I guess I will just make this public now and if anyone is interested, shoot me an email.

I would be willing to sell it for $3000 and you cover the shipping. If you do some checking on the prices, the rods, pistons, rings, and clutch are worth that much. Plus you should be able to sell your motor for at least $1500. I know it seems like a lot, but this motor was just rebuilt, with water pump and gaskets replaced. It has been broken in, and all you would have to do is install it.

Let me know, I have come down on my price to move it quick!

JG, that is some funny sh*t!!! Why in the world would I break down a motor like that to part out? I would never get the money out of it that I could by selling it! But I will keep an eye out for a head. I just got one for a guy, but he got the intake manifold and a lot of other extras. Is it just a bare head, or full valvetrain?
