engine question
as Im reading all these posts i see ppl talkin about different kinds of engines which i know nothing about. I have 01 prelude se and I was wondering what kind of engine i got or how i can find this out. What's the difference betweeen h22 and h23 and other different engines?

No you're incorrect on that. There is a Canadian model called the SE which is basically the SH without ATTS (or the base model with the SH rims, spoiler, etc.).
You have an H22A4 and the engine code should be on the block directly to the left of the header heat shield.

the JDM H22A is not 220 HP. Thats the Type S motor.
The JDM h22A has 200PS, or 206HP
as far as the H22a1 vs h22a4, although they are rated differently at the crank, the H22A1 seems to put just as much, if not a few more, HP down at the wheels

OBDII sucks
Anyone know what gives the JDM motors a slightly higher rated output?
I think the extra power of the H22A4 over the H22A1 is strictly due to the exhaust manifold design, a moot point since almost everyone gets an aftermarket header.
So what's with the JDMs? Is it just better aspiration or compression ratio or cam profile or what?

all i got to say is that OBDII really sux . no matter what you really do to your car you got to remeber that h22A4 there OBDII sensors on there can really restrict on what you do. also you go to remeber to be naturally aspirated, honda does a fantastic job with the engine for maximum gain of hp from the factory. so what ever bolt on you do to the car will not be like a domestic where you put an intake and get 100 hp. i myself for instance have a 5th gen lude with AEM cam gears, Greddy EVO cat back. AEM cai, dc sports ss headers , with all the basic bolt ons i havnet gained as much HP as i wanted to when i dynoed. at the most i assume 15 hp. all i got to say is that with the JDM type S , like "GABE" said, there comp is adjusted different, the main focus stands on the cams, plus you got to remeber that JAPAN does not have emmision laws << besides engine swapping at 40,000>
but they have there headers bored out larger without a catalyac converter., plus, the throttle body i do believe is bored out to 70mm. thats why there dispalcement is 220 hp. not the amwerican h22a4 which is 200 hp. dam i wish i had a type "s"
