I recently was told that the P28 does not activate the EGR valve.....so am I screwed for emissions here in VA? Of course I still have the P14, but don't want to use that unless someone verifies that it should pass emissions (I also have an adj. FPR)...and that using the P14 temporarily will not be damging to the engine.
Emissions is only once every two years, so I could put the P28 in after I pass....but since the P14 is expecting smaller injectors, can't I adjust the amt. of fuel and still hopefully pass emissions? ... or is the EGR needed?
help please...

Come on ... 80 views and no one has any suggestions?
Would my current P14 run lean due to different injectors?
just need something to pass emissions..then I will throw in my P28....

I believe that the P28 doesn't activate the secondaries not the egr. I have never heard of the egr not being activated. But hey I could be wrong but all newer cars have egr valves.

p28 doesnt use egr or IAB's.
if the ecu doesnt check out with the motor, then i would think that the refs would fail you. I dont have emissions here but just by common sense, i would think it would fail without the ecu that came stock with the engine.
if the motor is OBDI, you need a p13

i just passed emmision here in MA, with no egr, no evap and just a cat.. check my last post in my hy brid thread in my sig.. its all about tuning,
edit: does VA have refs and all that ****?

See I was wrong, thanks for correcting me 98vtec.
By the way how long do you think it will be until those ITB's are done? I am waiting to see the finished product.

No Refs....all they do for emissions here is two 'min' dyno type runs. They rev the car to like 4000 rpm and then to like 5500. They simply stick a pipe in the exhaust to measure the emissions. They don't examine your engine or pull codes/check your ECU, just checking the exhaust.
So either the P28 should be fine or I will have to grab a stock P13 to throw in there if I don't pass.
I am sure with the proper tune (since the P28 does not control the EGR valve) I should be able to pass emissions as well.
Thanks for the replies

yeah this is exactly what they do here, he just throws a sniffer in the tail pipe and runs the car through a series of "hills" and bam i passed. so i def think you will be fine with the p28

If the engine is in good shape and is tuned, it should pass fine without the EGR. I know ppl who pass with test pipes. You could also put the P14 in to pass, then take it back out.

Thanks Flyrod...that is the answer I was looking to be confirmed. I am having the car tuned tomorrow.
This has taken me almost (2) years, with research, finding parts, ordering them and now the home stretch.
