Default Electrical malfunction

My friend has a problem with his prelude. It is a 1990 Prelude SI, 4WS. It has an electrical problem with the tail lights and the dash. when the brakes are applied the tail lights are activated. when you switch on the lights for night driving the tail lights are not activated, along with the dash lights and the console lights. With the application of the brakes not only does the tail lights work but the dash and the console lights up too this happened a couple of days ago. Can you help with this problem if you can thank you.
