Default Deciding on engine

I'm looking at getting this 2000 Prelude shell and now am deciding on which engine to get. Right now I know a guy who can get me a k20 with around 40000 miles on it for either 800-1050. Finding out tonight which ones they are exactly though. He got a h22 with like 20000 miles on it i guess for like 1000 I think. Now i'm gonna be looking at getting a loan and need to see how much I can get but right now which would I be better off spending my money on. Was told both have tranny to.

To put the K20 in your car you need custom mounts and axles, nobody makes them yet. Also you would need an EMS and a custom harness.

For the H22a it would bolt in with all oem parts.

if you're not sure about price, and you're not doing it yourself, call up a full service shop and just ask... if you live in the st. louis area I can recommend a good place to do it

- k20s go for way more than that be leary and hope he's not trying to pass you on a motor that's been ripped off.

On another note i have only seen 1 K20 swap 5th gen and I heard it took duckets to get it working. I would go with the h22 cause it would be a hell of alot cheaper.

Sorry, meant how much does it usually run price wise?

As for price I'm asking for stuff like mounts and anything else I might need. Said harness already with it.

Duckets?? Ya I know they go for more, but guess this a friend of his thats closing shop/warehouse and moving and would be to expensive to move it all. What would all go into making the k20 swap?? Like needed stuff and possible problems and whatnot.

Alright I have friends who have done swaps and are gonna help me out....

So please instead of just saying its to much, or its to big to do, just help me out and let me know what I need, what needs to be done and price(if possible).

K20 swap requires Custom mounts, custom axles, custom harness, custom throttle cable, complete engine management system, custom header

Probably about 10k ++

H22a - complete swap 2k and you can install it yourself.

Shut up and go do it then. Quit asking people on the internet about it.

And any K20 you get for $800 is stolen or f'ed up.

The guy could possibly be selling you the inferior K20- the ones found in the base RSX or the Civic Si.

I think what Hawkze is saying is that swapping a K20 into a Prelude isn't something "a couple of friends who have done swaps" can do. As posters above me said before, you're gonna need lots and lots of custom parts, and that means going to a shop and burning a Grand Canyon-sized hole in your wallet.

Besides, if you actually have the money to do something this big, you can possibly buy a H22, build the bottom end, and go turbo and smoke RSX's everywhere. Just my opinion.

Thanks, but what custom parts. See I'm the kinda person that needs to know whats needed instead of just telling me you need "lots" of custom stuff. I know mounts obviously, but what else...?? harness?? ...??

custom parts as in.. you get the engine. you start to put it in. and be like oh I need a custom motor mount that is designed this way so in order for it to fit into my engine bay... no company has yet to come out on the market with custom parts to be able to do this swap.. basicallly if you want that k-series in your prelude you're going to have to be ingenuitive and come up with a design for all your parts... right down to the linkage that attaches to the tranny.. trust the people here at H-T when they tell you.. it's alot of "CUSTOM" work.

I really think you shoul;d just go with the H22... The K20 isn't worth it. Use the money you will save with the H22 and slap on a turbo.

If you want a K20 soo bad, get a RSX.

There's my opinion and my attempt to save you from something that you wont think is worth it in the end.

why would you put a less torqued engine in a prelude?....preludes need to torque...buy both engines, sell the k20 and use the money towards the h22

Well, you said:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by xStreetx &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Alright I have friends who have done swaps and are gonna help me out....</TD></TR></TABLE>

So what is the problem? Get those friends together and have them swap the engine in for you

It's all custom stuff, man. Only 1 person has swapped a K into a Prelude and he just went and did it. No one is going to tell you how because no one has done it. There is no book "How to put a K20 into a Honda Prelude", you just have to decide you want to do it and then accept any hurdles that come along the way.

Alright, so if I get both of them, whats the fastest way to sell the k20?? would you say locally, internet(ebay, sites like this...) or what?

Now forget the K20 I guess, cause I'm leaning towards the H22 now... Where I start on my build with the loan I get. I've been told Pistons and Sleeving for sure if wanting to boost at all now or future, but what about after that.... engine wise....???
