Simple fix, just pop out the axle and replace the damaged boot. You can change the boot with the outer end of the axle still attached to the knuckle, but it makes life SO much easier if you remove the axle entirely. I've replaced my boot several times on my SH. I think im on my 4th one now.

I believe you must remove the outer assembly to get the inner off, yes. And for another $60 for a new axle assembly...might be worth it.

The outter boot(rotor side) does not need to be removed. The entire axle will come off as an assembly.

I'll look like this when removed:

If you've never done a CV boot job, check out this site. It shows what the internals look like and how to do it: http://www.integra.orcon.net.nz/cv

The outer boot does not need to come off, you can do the inner one by itself. However, the inner one needs to come off in order to do the outer. I've replaced them both before. While you're doing the inner, replace the outer too just so you don't have to tear it apart again 5k miles from now.
