Default Which clutch is recommended?

What clutch would be ideal for a daily driven 5th Gen? I want stock like pedal feel, but a little bit more grab. I was thinking about getting the Exedy Stage 1 clutch? Is this a good choice?

i think a stage 2 with a 12pound flywheel is DD-able, but its not as mushy IIRC. Stage 1 clutch feels mushy to me regardless.

How heavy is the stock flywheel?

a stock flywheel is around 17-18lbs. the exedy stage one worked pretty well for me. i'd still be using it had i installed my main seal correctly. it all depends on what mods you have and what you plan to do in the future. if you have a low powered car, there really is no point to have more clamping force being a dd.

the competition clutches are supposed to be nice

i'm running an action clutch and i'll likely move to competition once this one actually wears out.

The pedal feel is all about the pressure plate, the grab is based on the disc you choose.

I'm not planning on doing much more than I/H/E to the car. I've decided on the Exedy Stage 1 clutch and an ACT XACT flywheel.

remember that with a light flywheel that the rev are going to kick in and end a little quicker than stock due to the lighter weight. just something you'd have to get use to. i am using the stock h23 flywheel, exedy stage one pressure plate with an ACT street disk. but what ever you get, you'd just have to get use to it and it would be just like anyone else set up for them.

Just installed Competition stage 2 this week. It took 1.5 days to finish the job in my driveway. I have put about 150 miles on it so far and it seems to grab very good. The only thing is a noticable amount of chatter or vibration mostly if I downshift into 2nd from 3rd. I have read that a stage 2 or better will do this sometimes. I am very happy with this clutch though.

can u tell me more about the "chatter and vibration?" how bad is it and what do u think its from? did u break in the clutch appropriately?

what clutch should i use with a 205whp na DD? im thinkin either comp clutch stage 2 or spec stage2 clutch. any opinions between those 2?

I ike my Exedy racing stage 1 with ACT streetlite FW(12.9lbs). Plenty of grab, feels just like stock as far as pedal pressure goes. No chatter or anything like that. Combined with my innovative motor mounts shifting is rock solid. It actually kicks when I hit the next gear at high rpms.

I have not even driven 500 mi yet so it will probably get a little better. I would not get the Exedy though. That is what I was replacing. Springs in the disc were about to pop out. There were also 2 pieces of metal off of the hub area that broke off completely. I have not gotten to drive much because the next day after getting the clutch , my balancer shaft seal popped out and I am replacing the timing belt, crank seal , installing the retainer clip for the balance shaft seal.

I used to race on an Action 1MD (and then 2MD) on my ITR.. the 1MD chattered like no tomorrow but the 2MD with a new flywheel did not. Could be the flywheel was warped with the 1MD.

I then had an ACT on the Prelude, was fine except the pedal pressure was pretty high like the 2MD, and then the pressure plate broke on me. I now have a Centerforce "Dual Friction" that's been great, the pedal pressure is really light and it grabs fine on the standing starts that we do. Pretty easy to modulate slip versus wheelspin too. That's with about 170 ft-lbs of torque.

Just another closer-to-stock option.

yeah I loved mine till it broke. When my disc failed, I could not get into gear. I had to turn the car off, put it in gear, start it, then shift without the clutch. This was after it broke at the dragstrip. Only about a 45 mile drive.

i stayed with the stock flywheel just resurfes and a fidnaza 4.3 feels like a stock clutch in the pedal and grabs a lot better than stock.

Exedy STG.1/ replacement and call it a day. Is just as good as stock. If your going to get a flywheel, try an 8 or 12 pounder
