Default clutch problem...

Hey all,

The one friggin' night i leave my car outside it gets freezing cold.

What happened was i start my car in the morning and let her warm up for a couple of minutes. Go to put her in first gear to get ready to go and noticed that it was difficult putting into gear. I was a little worried but then i just figured that it is very cold out and that is the reason why. Well, i kind of forced it into gear and there was a nice sounding "thud/thunk" noise. I thought it was just the tranny making the noise because of the difficulty of getting in gear. Then i figured that i would row through the gears to loosen things up a bit. Ha, that didn't happen. I couldn't row through any gear after i took it out of first. I can't even get it back into any gear. I then noticed that my clutch pedal felt very weak and light almost "volkswagen like" which is definitely not right because i have a ACT Heavy duty pressure plate in. I'm hoping that this is just a slave cylinder problem and nothing else.
If it isn't the slave cylinder, what else could it be? Remember, i barely have any pressure in my clutch pedal and it doesn't want to engage in gear. I'm thinking slave cylinder. Anyone else have ideas of what it could be?

Hey man, check you clutch fluid reservoir. Also, I have a similar problem with my car but my pedal is actually kinda stiff. I think it is my clutch master and slave cylinder. I suggest changing these parts. For the best price I have found anywhere..go to http://www.thepartsbin.com. I got both of mine for $100 shipped to me. They have free shipping for orders over $50.
Let us know how it turns out. I hope that this is the problem with my car. My car sometimes is hard to get into gear...and then when it gets into gear..it sometimes gets stuck in the gear. I have to pull over...shut the car off and slowly tig back and forth on the shifter to get it out of gear...while the car is OFF>

the only difference with mine is that i can't put it into gear AT ALL. It won't budge at all and my clutch is very very light, this just happened though. I've never had a problem putting it into gear or shifting otherwise which leads me to believe it has to be my slave cylinder. I've checked my resevoir and i have fluid in it. I'm going to order a slave cylinder ASAP and install ASAP. Thanks for you help.

Try to bleed the line before you go and order the stuff. Sounds like you got air in the line.

Hey man, I would change both the master AND slave clutch cylinders. I heard that if you change one and not the other...it could cause the other to prematurely wear out.

how could air just suddenly enter the system without something breaking? The fluid is still in there, and the clutch is not completely dead. I think the push rod mechanism in the slave cylinder is just shot and not pushing on the actuator arm that releases the clutch. Or i hope at least Thanks for you help, i'll try it out.

You could have a slow leak somewhere in the system.

Check your slave and master cyclinder, and if its not either one, then maybe your throw out baring is possibly messed up, and also, check your shift linkage to see if its not broken. I broke mine and it sucked, but it wasn't hard to replace. Just went to the salvage yard and bought a new one
