Default Check Engine Light...

So after cleanin off the screen on my IACV the other day....after about 15 minutes of driving my check engine light came on....and at low rpm's when i was giving it a little gas it was cutting out...I need a valve lash adjustment if that has anything to do with it, but i don't think that would cause the CEL to come on would it..

pull the code and see what it's throwing. double check to make sure that you plugged the connectors all the way in.

I tried checking the code with just the ignition on without the car running, and of course there was no check engine light on, cuz it doesn't come on till i start driving it for awhile. So...do i need to wait till it comes on and park the car while it's running and plug in the connectors?
