Default CEL code reading.. OBD

I’m new to this method but wanted to give it a try but it doesn’t seem to work.

Paper clip method into the 2-pin connector and then read the blinks to find the errors.
Problem is — my CEL doesn’t blink it just stays on solid when turned to ON position.

I’ve seen that some had luck with the engine running as well. That didn’t help for me either.

anyone have an idea why my light stays on and refuses to tell me the code?

You have one of three possibilities:

1) You aren't inserting the paper clip properly into the 2-pin service connector.
2) The ECU is damaged. It can also be a chipped ECU and the calibration on the chip has a "phantom" code... which means an incongruity in the ECU programming. Example: The knock sensor isn't turned off in the calibration of a P28 ECU... which doesn't have knock circuitry.
3) You have no stored codes and thus, the CEL stays on solid when you inserted the paper clip. This may be because you have turned the key off after the CEL came on, and without a functioning back up memory circuit, the code is reset. At key on, you have no code.

I know that the clip is inserted correctly as my ABS light also comes on with the clip in.
And as soon I take the clip out the ABS light shuts off and then the CEL dims down.

How do I get the codes then or is it simply just buying a new ECU?
