CAI PROBLEM!!!!!
HI,
Ive just fitted a CAI using pipework from ebay + the filter it came with and when i roll the car along at a casual pace (25mph) and then put my foot down the engine splutters a bit and then takes off like a rocket. I think this is down to the engine needing more air than the filter can put through when i first put my foot down.
this has only happend since i fitted the cai.
i do have a Carbon Dynamics air box that i will be fitting which has a small air reservoir which should solve the problem if its lack of air.
anyway if somebody could confirm this or correct me i would be greatful...

probably 2nd gear if i was in 3rd then it would be down to accelerating to hard in the wrong gear.

the car came with a diy short ram intake (202 bhp) and this is a lot better so would hopfully add a little more brake horse power...

no there is just the one hose which i put back. however the is an extra inlet thing on the intake pipe which is not on the standard intake pipe but ive blocked that off as there is no pipe to go on there...
i wil put up some pics later today...

Here is a pic of the extra thing on the intake pipe, anyone no what its for?. plus i took of the air filter off and the ran the engine and the symptoms got better but not perfect.
If you have a usdm intake manifold then that extra line is supposed to lead to the air boost valve... It just lets in a little bit more vavccum when starting the vehicle... It is basically useless... We americans get it because we are lazy and don't want to ever have to open the throttle slightly when starting a car...
This is a place for a pipe to air boost valve which helps in cold starts. I think USDM engines have block-off plate instead of this valve. It should be on the right side of IM.
cheers its a JDM model and ive got a nice wine bottle cork sitting on it.
still dont know why the car drives like **** in all gears as all ive done is change for short ram to CAI, does anybody know the answer to this HELP...please

well if youve taken off the filter and car still drives the same way and your lines are all hooked up the right way....
then only other thing i can think of is your car is used to your cai ...
computer re-learn..
dunno if ludes have it but 99.9% sure it does.. id try to disconnect your battery and just elt it sit for a bit then re-connect and go through the re-learn procedures..
car may be used to your old short air intake and the amout of air it was sucking in and the sudden change to cai might have screwed up its timing on the computer..
dunno if im being too far catched someone correct me if im wrong or tell me to f-off if i sound extremely stupid lol
but only other thing i can think of if your vacuum lines are good and your air filter is clean...
id also try to get some throttle body cleaner and spray it clean..

Im guessing since its a CAI it takes time for the air to come all the way threw the intake and you will lose some low end torque and throttle response because its longer than the SRI.
[/QUOTE]You should replace that light blue silicone hose that runs from the intake pipe to your valve cover with more of a rubber type hose. The heat and oil will cause the silicone to harden and it might close itself off.

how would i take it through the "re learn process"??

It is not a problem with the actual cold air intake. The intake would not cause symptoms like this.
Check your vacuum hoses and make sure everything else is hooked up correctly. Reset your ECU and see if it helps the problem.
